First game I played with Battle Wolf Yasuo was around 3 AM on a Saturday, right after the Anima Squad event dropped mid-season 14. Locked it in without even checking the splash. Huge mistake. Not because the skin is bad, the opposite actually. I was so distracted by the new Q particles that I whiffed a tornado on a standing-still Soraka. Diamond lobby, nobody let me forget it.

What the wolf aesthetic brings to Yasuo

The Anima Squad line leans into that mecha-animal hybrid thing, and Yasuo got the wolf treatment. His model runs leaner than base, more armored plating with sharp angles. The color palette sits in dark grays and electric blues. Clean silhouette. Kinda feels like they took PROJECT Yasuo’s cyberpunk energy and gave it actual personality.

Q is where it shines. Steel Tempest trails have this wolfish claw-swipe effect, faint blue streaks that read well in teamfights without cluttering your screen. Third Q tornado gets a wolf head shape – subtle enough that you wont notice it every time, which is honestly better than making it too loud. W wind wall has updated particles too, more angular and metallic. Feels like youre throwing up a force field instead of wind.

E dash leaves a quick trail that fades fast. Nothing crazy but it tracks well when you’re dashing through a minion wave trying to get lane prio. The ult is the highlight though. Last Breath slams down with wolf imagery in the VFX, electric energy crackling around the target. Played maybe 40 games with this skin and the R animation still looks satisfying every time I catch someone with an EQ flash knockup.

Recall animation is new. Yasuo does this whole wolf-summoning sequence, crouching with his blade before a spectral wolf appears. Solid recall. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic.

Anima Squad and the details

Battle Wolf Yasuo dropped July 31, 2024. Late into the Anima Squad second wave. Lejia Chan and Kudos Productions handled the artwork, and honestly they cooked on the splash. The composition puts Yasuo mid-leap with the wolf motif framing him – one of the better Anima Squad splashes in the batch.

The Anima Squad skinline keeps growing and Yasuo fits naturally. The military-meets-anime aesthetic works for a swordsman character. Not sure if it’s just me but I think this line does melee champs better than ranged ones. Yasuo, Sylas, they both look right in this universe.

9 chromas total. Obsidian goes full dark mode and reads the cleanest in-game by far, my go-to when I want to look menacing in the loading screen. Nightwire hits different with that orange and blue contrast, feels like a completely separate skin. Pearl is fine if you want the white aesthetic but it washes out on certain maps. (Random aside: the Nightwire chroma name is way cooler than it has any right to be for a color variant.) Been running Obsidian in Diamond for most of this season and the dark particles blend with the base VFX perfectly.

Should you buy Battle Wolf Yasuo?

Real verdict: this sits comfortably in the upper half of Yasuo’s skin lineup. That’s saying something because Yasuo has like 18 skins at this point and some of them are Legendary tier. For 1350 RP you get meaningful VFX changes on every ability, a good recall, and a model that actually looks distinct from his other Epics.

The competition is stiff though. Spirit Blossom Yasuo exists. Nightbringer exists. Truth Dragon exists. Battle Wolf Yasuo doesnt replace those if you already own them, but it fills a different niche – the clean sci-fi military look versus fantasy or edgy themes. Could be wrong here but I think this is the best Anima Squad skin in the second wave.

Skip it if you already have three plus Yasuo skins and you’re not an Anima Squad collector. Worth 1350 RP if you main Yasuo and want something modern that isnt overdesigned. Shop has it, permanent availability. For Yasuo one-tricks specifically, this should be in your rotation. Had it locked in last Tuesday for a ranked session and went 7-2, so take that as anecdotal evidence or whatever. Top pick for Yasuo mains who want the mecha vibe without going full PROJECT.
