Astronaut Fizz

First game I played with Astronaut Fizz was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Locked it in mid against a Syndra and honestly the skin just felt right immediately. There’s something about putting Fizz in a full space suit that shouldn’t work but absolutely does. The little guy bouncing around with his trident replaced by what looks like some kind of antenna probe. Ridiculous concept. Perfect execution.

What Astronaut Fizz actually brings to the table

New VFX across the board on this one. The Q dash leaves a trail of these soft blue-white particles, almost like micro-stars scattering behind him. Feels clean in lane and doesn’t clutter your screen when you’re trying to cs, which I appreciate more than flashy nonsense.

W proc has this satisfying little cosmic pop to it. Not sure if it’s just me but the auto-reset feels smoother with the new animation. Probably placebo. Still looks good though.

E is where the skin shines hardest. Playful/Trickster sends Fizz launching upward with a jetpack boost effect, and the landing zone gets this orbital ring indicator thats actually easier to read than base. Been running this in Diamond for a couple months and I genuinely think the E visuals give you a slight edge in teamfights because the hitbox reads more honestly than some of his other skins.

R launches a little UFO shark. Yeah. A space shark with a UFO helmet. It tracks across the Rift and the chomp animation has these cosmic debris particles flying everywhere. Looks incredible in a dive comp when you’re throwing it into the backline from fog. The recall animation puts Fizz on a tiny rocket that sputters before launching. Cute touch.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for a 1350 Epic. Kept the base voice pack but honestly Fizz’s default lines are funny enough that I dont mind.

Release info and the Astronaut line

Astronaut Fizz dropped February 24, 2023. Mid season 13. Augusto Quirino and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the playful vibe perfectly without making it look like a joke skin.

The Astronaut skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent theme sets. Corki, Veigar, Bard, Poppy, Maokai all got Astronaut skins and they share this soft pastel-meets-space-tech aesthetic. Fizz fits naturally into the lineup. Kinda feels like he was always meant to be in the Astronaut roster given his aquatic theme translating weirdly well into zero gravity.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to, the dark colorway makes Fizz look like some deep space operative which is a hilarious contrast to his personality. Amethyst hits hard too, the purple suit pops against Summoner’s Rift greens. Rose Quartz is the sleeper pick if you want something different from what everyone else runs. (Random aside: I’ve seen maybe 4 Astronaut Fizz players total this season in my Diamond games and none of them used chromas. Criminal.)

Is Astronaut Fizz worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin for Fizz. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, a solid recall, and the thematic execution is clean. Could be wrong here but I think this sits comfortably in the top three Fizz skins alongside Fuzz Fizz and Little Devil.

If you main Fizz and you’re tired of cycling between Void and Fisherman, this is the upgrade. Shop has it, permanent availability, grab whichever chroma speaks to you. The base white-and-orange colorway is already strong so chromas are bonus not necessity.

Spammed this in ranked for about 23 games in a row one weekend and never got bored of the VFX. That Kayn on my team inted three of those games but at least Fizz looked good doing it. Worth the price for mains, skip if you’re a casual Fizz picker who already owns one decent skin. Simple call.
