Akali Skins

21 skins available

Akali's skin catalog is one of those collections where you can trace Riot's entire design philosophy shift from 2010 to 2024. Been maining her on and off since the rework in season 8, and honestly the difference between her earliest skins and something like Star Guardian is almost comical. 21 skins total. Some absolute bangers in there, a couple duds, and three Prestige variants that tell you exactly how popular this champion is with the playerbase. Not gonna lie, picking a favorite is harder than landing a perfect E2 in a teamfight.

Akali's Full Skin Collection

21 skins spanning 14 years. That's a lot of cosmetic ground to cover for one assassin. The breakdown shakes out to 7 Standard tier skins, 10 Epics, 3 Mythic (all Prestige editions), and one Legendary. Feels like Riot discovered Akali prints money around the K/DA era and just never stopped.

The early stuff is rough. All-star Akali dropped back in 2010 and it shows. Stinger Akali, Infernal Akali, Nurse Akali - these are relics from a different game entirely. Pre-rework textures on a champion that got completely rebuilt. Could be wrong here but I think most people forget these even exist unless they roll one from a chest. The splash art carries some nostalgia though (sidebar: Nurse Akali's splash has no business being that good for a 2010 skin).

Things picked up around Headhunter in 2015. That was the first skin where Akali felt like she had a real identity beyond "ninja with different colored outfit." Blood Moon came before it and had the thematic going for it, but Headhunter brought the VFX quality that Epic skins should deliver.

Then 2018 happened. K/DA Akali basically redefined what a skin launch could be. The neon aesthetic, the rap verse in POP/STARS, the prestige edition that everyone and their duo partner was grinding for. Season 8 Worlds patch, I remember spamming Akali mid in ranked that week and seeing the K/DA skin in maybe 70% of my games. Wild time to be on the Rift.

From 2018 onward Riot kept the pipeline flowing. PROJECT, True Damage, K/DA ALL OUT, Crime City Nightmare, Star Guardian, Coven, Empyrean. Ten of her 21 skins released after the rework. Makes sense - new Akali plays smoother, looks better, and sells more. The newest one, Empyrean Akali from 2024, rounds out a collection thats honestly overwhelming to choose from if you're picking up the champion fresh.

Best Skins for Akali

Star Guardian Akali is the crown jewel. Full stop. Only Legendary in the collection at 1820 RP and it earns every point. New voiceover, completely reworked animations, the Q shurikens become these star-infused projectiles that feel crisp on contact. The E animation specifically - when you mark a target and dash back in, the trail effect is clean. Been running this in Diamond since it dropped in 2022 and I still notice small details I missed. The recall animation alone is worth it.

Kinda feels like Riot put extra effort into this one because they knew Akali mains would scrutinize every frame. The passive circle indicator got a full redesign, her shroud (W) has this cosmic mist effect, and the ult dashes leave stardust trails. Compared to base Akali it's almost a different champion visually.

Prestige K/DA Akali holds a special place. Not because it's the best looking - the gold and white palette is clean but not groundbreaking. It's the cultural moment. Season 8, Worlds, everyone trying to grind enough tokens before the event ended. I pulled an all-nighter around 3 AM on a Tuesday finishing those missions. The 2022 re-release version exists too but the original carries more weight for people who were there.

Headhunter Akali at 1350 RP might be the most underrated pick in the whole catalog. Predator-inspired helmet, the kama weapons get a tech overlay, and her shroud has this digital camo effect. Not sure if it's just me but the auto attacks feel snappier with this skin. Placebo probably. Still locks in as my second choice after Star Guardian when I want something less flashy.

Crime City Nightmare Akali deserves a mention. The noir horror aesthetic works surprisingly well on an assassin kit. Dark tentacle effects on the abilities, the splash art goes hard. Released 2021, sits at 1350 RP. Solid Epic that punches above most skins in that price bracket.

Prestige Coven Akali rounds out the top five. The Coven line fits Akali's dark mystique better than K/DA does honestly. Witch fantasy meets assassin gameplay and the green-gold prestige palette doesnt hurt. Three Prestige skins for one champion is excessive but when they look this good its hard to complain.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Akali

K/DA is the obvious one. Akali basically IS K/DA at this point. Three skins in the line counting the Prestige and ALL OUT versions. The pop star aesthetic shouldn't work on a ninja assassin but something about the neon colors and streetwear design just clicks. Maybe just my experience but K/DA Akali is the version of this champion that most casual players picture when they hear her name.

Blood Moon is a natural fit. Assassin champion, Japanese-inspired theme, demon mask aesthetic. It works. The skin itself is older and shows its age compared to newer Epics but the thematic synergy is undeniable. Wish Riot would do a Blood Moon 2.0 for her with modern VFX standards.

Coven surprised me. Didn't expect the dark witch fantasy to translate well to Akali's kit but Riot pulled it off. The shroud becomes this swirling dark magic cloud, the passive proc has arcane energy effects. Fits better than PROJECT honestly, which always felt a bit generic on her (random aside: PROJECT skins after 2019 all kind of blend together in my head).

Star Guardian works because the contrast is interesting. Bubbly magical girl aesthetic on a champion who's all about stealth and assassination. The dissonance is the appeal. Real talk though, not every skinline hits. Sashimi Akali exists. Culinary Masters line. It's a meme skin and thats fine but nobody's locking that into ranked seriously. Infernal is another miss - too generic, doesn't add anything you cant get from five other fire-themed skins in the game.

Budget Picks vs Premium Akali Skins

If you're climbing ranked and dont want to drop 1820 on Star Guardian, Headhunter at 1350 is the move. Best value Epic in her collection by a wide margin. The VFX changes are noticeable, the model looks distinct, and it's permanently in the shop.

Silverfang Akali at 750 RP is the budget sleeper. Standard tier, minimal changes, but the silver and white color scheme reads clean in game. No new particles or anything fancy. Just a solid recolor that looks better than base. Played maybe 50 games with it back in season 10 before upgrading and it never felt cheap.

For the premium end, Star Guardian is the only Legendary at 1820 and it's worth saving for over buying two Epics. The new VO and animations make it feel like a genuinely different experience. The three Prestige skins are all Mythic tier and require event grinding or Mythic Essence - you cant just buy them outright. If you spot Prestige Coven in the Mythic shop rotation, grab it. Best of the three Prestiges visually.

Real verdict: 520 RP gets you Stinger or Infernal which are barely upgrades. 750 gets Silverfang which is decent. 1350 is the sweet spot with Headhunter, Blood Moon, or Crime City Nightmare. And 1820 for Star Guardian if you're committed to maining Akali this season. Fair price for the package.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Akali have?

21 skins as of 2024. That includes 3 Prestige editions which some people count separately. Breakdown is 7 Standard, 10 Epic, 3 Mythic, and 1 Legendary. Pretty stacked catalog for any champion, but Akali sells well so Riot keeps feeding the pipeline. She's gotten at least one new skin every year since the 2018 rework basically.

What is the best Akali skin?

Star Guardian Akali. Only Legendary in the collection and it delivers. New voice lines, completely reworked ability VFX, unique animations. Spammed this in ranked for months and it still feels fresh. If you cant justify 1820 RP, Headhunter at 1350 is the next best pick. Solid Epic that holds up well.

What is the cheapest Akali skin?

Stinger Akali and Infernal Akali both sit at 520 RP. Oldest skins in the catalog, minimal changes from base. Silverfang at 750 RP is the better budget option honestly. Cleaner model, the silver palette looks good in game. None of these have new VFX though so set expectations accordingly.

Does Akali have a Legendary skin?

Yeah, one. Star Guardian Akali at 1820 RP. New voiceover, new animations, full VFX overhaul on every ability. Released in 2022 as part of the Star Guardian event. Feels like a different champion compared to base. Been my go-to Akali skin since it dropped and I dont see that changing anytime soon.

What skinlines is Akali in?

K/DA is the big one - three skins there counting Prestige and ALL OUT. Also Blood Moon, Headhunter, PROJECT, True Damage, Crime City Nightmare, Coven, Star Guardian, and Empyrean. Plus some older lines like Infernal and Culinary Masters. She's in a lot of skinlines. Riot really spreads her around.

Does Akali have chromas?

Several of her Epic and higher skins have chromas available. K/DA ALL OUT, Crime City Nightmare, Coven, and Empyrean all shipped with chroma sets. The Prestige editions dont get chromas since they're already variant skins. Check the individual skin pages for exact counts and color options per skin.

When was Akali's last skin released?

Empyrean Akali in 2024. Epic tier at 1350 RP. The Empyrean line has that cosmic energy aesthetic going on. Decent skin, not her best but definitely not a miss either. Before that was Coven and Prestige Coven in late 2023. She gets new skins pretty consistently so expect another one within a year probably.

Is Akali worth buying skins for?

If you play her regularly, absolutely. Her kit is flashy and skins amplify that. The shroud, the E mark, the R dashes - they all look noticeably better with a good skin equipped. Might be biased as someone whos played her since the rework but Akali is one of those champions where cosmetics genuinely improve the gameplay feel. Star Guardian or Headhunter, pick one and go.
