Snow Fawn Poppy

First game I played with Snow Fawn Poppy was late December 2017, right after it dropped. Locked it in for a normal with my duo and the loading screen splash alone sold me. Poppy holding that little lantern in the snow with deer antlers on her helmet. Ridiculous concept on paper. Somehow it works perfectly.

What Snow Fawn Poppy actually brings to the Rift

So this is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, which means you get new VFX and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no filter either. Standard for the price point. The VFX changes are where the skin earns its keep though.

Her Q slams down with this frosty blue particle effect, snow scattering on impact. Clean read in lane, doesnt blend into the ground like some winter skins tend to do. The W shield pops with snowflake particles circling Poppy, and honestly it reads better than base in teamfights when you need to track the passive shield timing. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox visual on her E charge feels slightly cleaner too, the wall stun impact has these ice crystal shards that make it super satisfying when you pin someone.

Her ult is the highlight. Fully charged R sends enemies flying with a trail of snow and sparkles. Big improvement over base. Even the short-tap R for the knockup has nice frost particles. Been running this in Diamond for a couple seasons now when I play Poppy support and the ult VFX never gets old.

The recall animation has Poppy building a tiny snowman, which is pure charm. She bonks it with her hammer at the end. Little details like that separate a good 1350 skin from a forgettable one. (Random aside: my friend group calls the recall “snowman execution” and we ping each other to watch it every time.)

The Winter Wonder line and release context

Snow Fawn Poppy released December 12, 2017 as part of the Winter Wonder skinline. Late season 7. Riot was putting out consistent winter holiday skins back then and this batch was one of the better ones. The Winter Wonder line has some hits and misses but Poppy’s entry sits comfortably near the top.

Rudy Siswanto nailed the splash. The forest scene with snow falling, the warm lantern glow against cold blues. Composition is clean and the color palette reads well even as a tiny thumbnail. Credit where its due.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which is a bit of a missed opportunity honestly. A ruby or golden chroma variant could have looked great with the winter aesthetic. But Riot wasnt handing out chromas as freely in 2017 as they do now, so it is what it is.

Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it whenever you want. Comes back around during the winter holiday event usually, or you might roll it from Hextech crafting if you’re lucky. Seen maybe two or three of these in my games all of last season, which honestly makes it feel more special when you do lock it in.

Should you pick up Snow Fawn Poppy?

Real verdict: if you play Poppy in any role and you like the cute aesthetic over the warrior fantasy, this is your skin. Not gonna lie, I go back and forth between this and Astronaut Poppy depending on my mood, but Snow Fawn has a warmth to it that the sci-fi skins cant replicate.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, great splash art. The lack of chromas stings a little but the base color scheme is strong enough to stand on its own. That soft blue and white with the brown leather accents and deer antler details on the hammer. Good stuff.

For Poppy mains specifically, this is a top three skin in her catalog. Not sure if it’s just me but something about the Q animation on Snow Fawn Poppy feels smoother than her other Epic skins. Might be placebo, might be the particle contrast against darker Rift terrain. Either way I keep coming back to this one every winter. Last Tuesday around 1 AM I was spamming Poppy support in ranked and this skin carried my mental through a rough loss streak. Sometimes thats all a skin needs to do.

Skip it if you want edgy or aggressive Poppy vibes. Pick it up from the vault if you want the coziest hammer yordle on the Rift. Simple choice really.
