First time I saw Pool Party Caitlyn load in, I thought Riot finally figured out how to make a summer skin that doesnt look goofy on a marksman. Caitlyn trades her top hat and rifle for a lifeguard whistle and a water gun, and somehow it works. Been running this skin in Diamond for a solid chunk of season 8 and beyond, and the VFX still hold up years later. Clean skin. Solid purchase for anyone who locks in Caitlyn more than twice a month.
What Pool Party Caitlyn actually brings to the table
The whole model gets a rework here. Caitlyn’s in a red lifeguard outfit with sunglasses pushed up on her head, and the rifle is now a high-pressure water gun with a pool noodle bayonet. Ridiculous concept on paper. In practice it reads surprisingly well on the Rift.
Q fires a pressurized water blast that splashes on contact. Feels satisfying to land in lane, especially when you’re poking through the wave pre-6. The W traps are little crab buckets now, and honestly they blend into the ground better than base traps on certain map skins. Not sure if it’s just me but I swear people step on these more often. Could be the colors just don’t pop as much against the Summoner’s Rift grass.
E net becomes a spray of water, and R channels with this beach ball targeting reticle. The ult animation is probably the highlight. Caitlyn lines up the shot through what looks like a snorkeling scope. Big moment.
New recall animation too. She sets up a beach umbrella and lounges back with a drink. Standard Pool Party energy. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at the Epic tier. 1350 RP gets you the model, particles, recall, and sound effects. Fair deal.
Played maybe 150 games with this skin across two seasons and the auto attack sounds are what keep me coming back. The water splashing on each shot has this satisfying rhythm when you’re CSing. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I was grinding ranked and realized I’d been using this skin for three weeks straight without swapping. That’s the mark of a good skin for me.
Pool Party lineup and release context
Pool Party Caitlyn dropped August 2, 2018. Right in the middle of summer, obviously. Bo ‘chenbowow’ Chen handled the artwork, and the splash captures the vibe perfectly. Caitlyn’s standing on a beach with the water gun aimed, other Pool Party champs in the background. Classic ensemble splash.
The Pool Party skinline is one of Riot’s longest running themes. Kinda feels like they release a new batch every summer, and the quality varies wildly. Some Pool Party skins look like mobile game ads. Caitlyn’s sits comfortably in the upper half. The color palette works, the theme fits an ADC who’s all about precision shots, and the water gun rifle doesn’t sacrifice the silhouette clarity you need in teamfights.
5 chromas available. Obsidian is my pick, the dark color scheme turns the whole lifeguard aesthetic into something more serious. Aquamarine leans into the water theme harder than base, which some people prefer. Rose Quartz exists for the pink enjoyers. Ruby and Catseye round it out but I rarely see those in my games. (Random aside: the Obsidian chroma on this skin has been my phone lockscreen for an embarrassing amount of time.)
Shop has it. Permanent availability, so no vault anxiety. Grab it whenever.
Is Pool Party Caitlyn worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin for Caitlyn mains who want something lighter than Headhunter or Pulsefire. The water VFX are clean, the model looks good, and the recall is fun without being obnoxious. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get.
Where it falls short is the lack of new voice lines. At this price point thats expected, but when you compare it to some of Caitlyn’s newer releases like Arcane Enforcer or Snow Moon, Pool Party starts to show its age. The 2018 particle work is solid but noticeably simpler than what Riot’s been putting out recently.
My Caitlyn one-trick friend in Diamond swears by Headhunter still, says the auto attack animation feels crisper. Been going back and forth between the two for seasons and I think Pool Party wins on personality. Headhunter wins on competitive feel. If you’re climbing and want something that doesn’t distract, Headhunter. If you want to have fun in your games and maybe tilt the enemy bot lane with a beach themed headshot, Pool Party Caitlyn all day.
Skip it if you already own Arcade or Prestige Arcade. Too many colorful Caitlyn skins in rotation starts to feel redundant. But if your Caitlyn collection is light, this is a strong second or third pickup after whichever Legendary or Prestige you prefer. Worth 1350 RP if you main Caitlyn. Season 8 skin that still competes in season 14, and that says something.
