Mythmaker Galio

Galio getting the Mythmaker treatment during the 2023 Lunar New Year event was a smart pick by Riot. The big stone gargoyle reimagined as a golden dragon guardian. January 12, 2023 release. Rio Sabda and Caravan Studio did the splash and it shows Galio in this imposing golden dragon warrior form that looks like a temple guardian brought to life. Been using this as my go-to Galio skin since it came out and it still feels fresh.

Dragon guardian in mid lane

The model transforms Galio from a stone gargoyle into a golden dragon-themed warrior. Red and gold armor, dragon motifs across the design, a more aggressive stance than base Galio. Winds of War on Q sends two dragon-fire waves that converge into a tornado. The convergence zone has golden fire effects that pulse with each damage tick. Shield of Durand on W charges with building dragon energy and the taunt field has a golden ring indicator with dragon scale patterns.

Justice Punch on E dashes forward with a golden dragon charge effect. The dash trail looks like a dragon in flight for a brief moment. Could be wrong here but I think the E dash on this skin has a slightly more dramatic wind-up visual than base which makes it easier for enemies to react to in lane. Not a competitive disadvantage really, just something I noticed after maybe 30 games with it. Hero’s Entrance on R is where this skin peaks. Galio channels and then slams down from the sky with a massive golden dragon impact crater. The knock-up zone has dragon-fire shockwave effects radiating outward. Coming down with R into a 5-man teamfight and watching the golden impact crater spread across the ground is one of the more dramatic ult visuals for tank players. Landed a 4-man R at baron last Thursday and the impact zone covered basically the entire pit.

Ten chromas which is a lot: Ruby, Turquoise, Rose Quartz, Sapphire, Citrine, Tanzanite, Emerald, Pearl, Gilded, and Paragon. The Gilded chroma enhances the gold further. Paragon adds a premium variant. At 1350 RP. Legacy availability so it may not always be in the shop. Part of the Mythmaker skinline. No new voice lines. Josh Petersdorf’s Galio voice applies.

Shield of Durand on W deserves its own mention because tank Galio players spend a lot of time holding W in teamfights and the dragon energy buildup visual on Mythmaker gives you great feedback on how long you have been channeling. The golden dragon aura expanding around you while enemies are taunted feels powerful in a way that base Galio’s W just doesnt deliver. Held W in a choke point near dragon pit last Friday and taunted three people into our team. The golden ring expanding outward while they walked toward me looked like a temple guardian calling them to judgement. Not sure if its just me but I think the taunt indicator on this skin is slightly easier for your team to react to as well because the golden color pops against the terrain more than the default blue-grey. Small thing but in coordinated play it matters when your ADC needs to know exactly when the taunt connects.

Galio skin ranking

Galio has Gatekeeper at Legendary and the newer Aegis Frame at Legendary. Both have full voice reworks. Mythmaker sits at Epic but competes well visually because the dragon aesthetic is so strong on Galio’s large model. At 1350 RP with 10 chromas its massive value. Legacy status means grab it when its available during Lunar New Year events or special shop rotations.

Real talk though, the R impact visual alone is worth owning this skin for if you play Galio regularly. Tank players dont get a lot of visually exciting skins and Mythmaker Galio is one of those rare cases where the Epic tier delivers something that feels premium. (sidebar: my mid lane Galio games feel better with this skin on and I know thats pure placebo but I keep picking it anyway) The Gilded and Paragon chromas add even more gold which feels excessive on a skin already dripping in gold, but Galio mains seem to love it. 1350 RP well spent for anyone who plays Galio in any role.
