Coven Ahri

Not gonna lie, when Coven Ahri dropped in August 2021 I wasnt expecting much. Ahri already had so many skins at that point and the Coven line felt like it belonged more to enchanter types. But the second I saw the splash I changed my mind completely. Dark witchy Ahri with that eerie violet palette and the thorned headpiece hit different from everything else in her catalog. Locked it in for ranked that same night.

So what actually changes. The VFX overhaul is where Coven Ahri earns its 1350 RP. Her Q orb trades the usual blue for this deep purple and black energy that trails dark particles on the return. Looks clean in lane, especially against the green of Summoner’s Rift. The W foxfires become these spectral wisp things, almost like cursed flames orbiting her. Solid change.

Her E charm is the standout for me. The heart shape gets replaced with this thorny sigil that honestly reads better in teamfights than base. Landed a clutch charm on their Zed last week in a Diamond 2 game and my support actually pinged the VFX asking what skin that was. Real talk though, the R dashes leave behind these dark feathery trails and each dash feels heavier visually. Not a gameplay advantage obviously but the feedback just feels more satisfying when you’re diving the backline.

The recall animation is new too. Ahri performs this ritual with dark energy swirling around her, very on-brand for the Coven theme. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for an Epic tier skin. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack particles also got a slight color shift to match the purple scheme. Small thing but it ties everything together when you’re farming cs in lane.

Coven skinline and who made this

The Coven line is one of Riot’s better thematic hits. Been running since 2018 with Camille and Lissandra and it keeps growing. Coven Ahri released August 12, 2021, mid-season 11 if I remember right. Huyy Nguyen and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked. The splash captures this dark goddess energy perfectly, Ahri surrounded by thorns and shadowy fox spirits. (Random aside: this splash has been my Discord banner for like two years now and nobody’s asked me to change it.)

10 chromas total which is a lot for one skin. Obsidian goes full dark mode and its probably the cleanest option if you want that edgy witch vibe without the purple. Tanzanite deepens the base colors into richer territory. The Ahri-versary chroma is the special one, exclusive blue and red combo that reads like a celebration piece. I keep coming back to Obsidian though, something about the muted tones just works better against most map backgrounds.

Shop has it permanently at 1350 RP. Not a Legacy skin, not loot exclusive, just sitting there whenever you want it. For Ahri mains who already own Spirit Blossom and K/DA this offers a completely different fantasy. Dark and gothic versus pop star versus serene. Kinda feels like Riot intentionally spaces out Ahri’s skin themes so each one occupies its own lane.

Should you pick up Coven Ahri?

Verdict time. Been maining Ahri with this skin on and off since season 11 and I think it holds up. The VFX work is above average for an Epic. Not every 1350 skin gets particles that read this clearly in a five-person teamfight but Coven Ahri manages it. The dark purple pops against the Rift without being obnoxious like some of the brighter skins.

My Ahri one-trick friend runs Spirit Blossom exclusively and says Coven feels “too heavy” visually. Fair point. If you prefer lighter airy aesthetics this might not click. But for anyone who wants their Ahri to feel like a dark enchantress instead of a pop idol, this is the pick. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip if you only play Ahri in ARAM maybe three times a season, but for mains and anyone who vibes with the Coven line? Worth it. Top pick for Ahri mains who want something with edge. Played maybe 200 games with it across two seasons and around 3 AM last Saturday I still wasn’t tired of seeing those charm particles.
