First time I locked in Cosmic Dawn Rakan was back in season 7, maybe two weeks after Rakan dropped as a champion entirely. The dude hadn’t even been out a month and Riot already had this skin ready to go. That tells you something about how confident they were in the Cosmic line fitting him. Honestly not gonna lie, the moment I saw the splash I knew this was going to be my default for a long time.
What Cosmic Dawn actually brings to the table
So the big draw here is the VFX overhaul. For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, the particle work punches above its weight. His Q sends out this golden cosmic ripple that reads cleaner than base in teamfights, which matters when you’re trying to land heals on your ADC in a chaotic dragon pit scenario. The W, Grand Entrance, gets this burst of starlight on impact. Pretty satisfying when you dash into three people and the screen lights up gold.
E shield dash leaves a trail of cosmic energy. Clean. Not distracting, just enough to feel premium. His R though, The Quickness, is where the skin really shines. Literally. The charm trail goes full celestial, these swirling golden particles follow you as you dash through the enemy backline. Played a game last Friday where I ulted through their entire comp near baron and the visual chaos was beautiful.
New recall animation too. Rakan does this cosmic dance thing, summoning starlight around him. Fits his personality perfectly since the guy is basically a showoff in lore and gameplay. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly Ronan Summers already did such good work on the base voice that it doesnt bother me much.
The model itself swaps Rakan’s feathered cape for this flowing cosmic mantle. Deep blues and golds everywhere. Think celestial guardian vibes rather than his usual Vastayan look. The shoulder pieces have these star-pattern details that catch light in game. Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attack animations feel smoother with this skin. Probably placebo, I know, but I swear the autos have a crispness to them.
The Cosmic line and where Rakan fits
Cosmic Dawn Rakan released April 18, 2017. That’s literally Rakan’s launch patch. Day one skin. Kelly Aleshire nailed the splash, the composition with Rakan floating among the stars captures the whole celestial protector fantasy perfectly.
The Cosmic skinline is one of Riot’s more elegant themes. You got Cosmic Lulu, Cosmic Xin Zhao, and of course Cosmic Dusk Xayah as the matching pair. (Random aside: if you duo with a Xayah player and you’re NOT running Cosmic Dawn while they run Cosmic Dusk, are you even trying?) The thematic split between Dawn and Dusk for the couple works better than most of their paired skins honestly.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Which I think is fine for a 2017 Epic skin, chromas weren’t as standard back then. Still in the shop if you want it. Permanent availability, grab it whenever.
For context on the skinline itself, Cosmic leans into this idea of celestial beings maintaining order across the universe. Rakan as a Dawn variant positions him as the light side of that cosmic balance. The gold and blue palette reinforces it. Could be wrong here but I think this was one of the earlier Cosmic skins before the line expanded into Dark Cosmic territory with Jhin and Lux.
Is Cosmic Dawn Rakan worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: if you play Rakan with any regularity, this skin is hard to pass up. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, new recall, solid model changes. The particle clarity in teamfights is genuinely useful when you’re trying to peel or engage in Diamond games where things get messy fast.
Been maining Rakan with this skin across two seasons and I keep coming back to it even after picking up Star Guardian and Elderwood later. There’s something about the cosmic aesthetic that just fits his kit. The golden particles on W engages feel rewarding in a way other skins dont quite match. My duo partner runs Cosmic Dusk Xayah and the combined recall is still one of the better duo moments in the game (season 9 I think they added the shared recall interaction, or maybe 10 dont remember).
Straight talk: if you already own Star Guardian Rakan or Elderwood, this becomes more of a rotation piece than a must-buy. But if this is your first Rakan skin purchase, it’s the safest bet. Good VFX, strong theme, clean model. Skip it only if you hard main a different support and just pocket Rakan for specific comps. For one-tricks and Rakan mains climbing ranked, this is the one.
