Boneclaw Shyvana

First time I saw Boneclaw Shyvana in a loading screen I thought someone was running a custom skin. The whole prehistoric warrior look caught me off guard because Shyvana already has this primal energy in her base kit, and slapping actual bones on her just made it click harder. Been maining Shyvana on and off since season 3 and this one stayed in my rotation longer than I expected for a 520 RP skin.

The bone armor and what it actually changes

So at 520 RP you’re getting a model swap and thats about it. No new VFX, base voice lines, no recall animation. Standard tier stuff. But the model itself does enough work to justify the price. Shyvana trades her default purple armor for this rough tribal setup with bone plating across her shoulders and torso. The color palette shifts toward earthy browns and tans with bone-white accents.

Her twin blades get replaced with these jagged bone weapons. Kinda feels like she ripped them off some Rift Herald ancestor and just started swinging. The dragon form keeps the prehistoric vibe going too, which honestly surprised me for a skin this old. Not sure if it’s just me but the dragon form reads cleaner than some of her more expensive options.

Playing this skin, the Q auto-reset with those bone blades has a certain weight to it visually. Same particles as base, same sounds, but the model sells the fantasy of a jungle predator. I ran this for about 15 games last month in Diamond and nobody commented on it once. Invisible skin. Not flashy, not ugly, just there. Sometimes thats what you want when you’re focused on clearing camps and diving the backline at dragon soul.

Prehistoric Hunters and the 2011 release

Boneclaw Shyvana dropped November 1, 2011. Early League days. Feihong Chen handled the artwork and honestly the splash holds up decent for its age. Not their best work but you can see the direction they were going with the tribal hunter concept.

This sits in the Prehistoric Hunters skinline alongside a few other champions. The line never got huge traction compared to stuff like PROJECT or Star Guardian but it has a niche following. Real talk though, the Prehistoric Hunters skins all share this same earthy tone that works better on bruisers and fighters than it would on mages or ADCs.

No chromas available for this one. Permanent shop, so you can grab it whenever. 520 RP is about as cheap as skins get these days outside of the 390 tier. (Random aside: I keep forgetting 520 RP skins exist until I scroll past them in the collection tab at like 1 AM looking for something to buy.)

Should you pick up Boneclaw Shyvana?

Straight talk: if you’re a Shyvana one-trick looking to fill out the collection, 520 RP is nothing. Worth it for variety alone. But if you only want one Shyvana skin, this isnt the one. Ice Drake and Super Galaxy both offer way more for the money with actual VFX changes.

Where Boneclaw earns its spot is the aesthetic. Some games you dont want the flashy legendary treatment. You want to lock in Shyvana, farm your jungle clear, hit 6, and start ganking lanes with a prehistoric dragon that looks like it crawled out of the earth. Been playing ranked with this one specifically on days where I need to focus on macro instead of getting distracted by particle effects. Could be coping but I swear my win rate is higher on simpler skins.

For 520 RP and a clean model swap, Boneclaw Shyvana does what it needs to do. Skip it if you need new VFX to feel good about a purchase. Pick it up if you appreciate the stripped-down primal look and want something different from her default. Voice pack is base only, no new lines, but Karen Strassman’s original VO fits the bone armor vibe well enough. Fair price for the package.
