Blood Moon Zyra

First game I played with Blood Moon Zyra was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Thursday. Locked her in support, loaded into lane, and the plants immediately caught my eye. The red and white theme just reads so clean against the Rift. Been a Zyra player since season 7 and I think this is the skin that finally made me stop rotating between her other options. Not gonna lie, the Blood Moon line has some misses across the roster, but Zyra fits the aesthetic like she was designed for it from day one.

What Blood Moon Zyra actually brings to the table

This is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP so you get new VFX across the board plus a fresh recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no changes there. Standard for the price point.

The plants are the star here. Her Q spawns these thorny red-and-white growths that feel way more menacing than default Zyra. The Thorn Spitters and Vine Lashers both got the Blood Moon treatment and honestly they pop harder in teamfights than any of her other skins. Could be wrong here but I think the plant hitboxes even feel slightly different visually, like the VFX extend just a bit further than the actual range. Makes opponents hesitate in lane which is free prio for your ADC.

W plants sprouting up have this crimson bloom effect. Clean. E root trail leaves red energy on the ground that reads really well when you’re threading it through a comp in a tight dragon pit fight. The ult is where Riot cooked though. Stranglechorns erupts with Blood Moon energy and the zone control feels oppressive. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in Diamond and I swear enemies respect the R zone more than they do on base Zyra. Placebo? Probably. But I’ll take it.

Recall animation has Zyra doing this ritual thing with Blood Moon masks. Short, fits the vibe, doesnt overstay its welcome. (Random aside: the recall music slaps harder than it has any right to for a 1350 skin.)

Blood Moon line and release context

Blood Moon Zyra dropped April 17, 2024. Late season 14 batch. Marie Magny and West Studio handled the splash, and they captured the ceremonial vibe perfectly. The mask motif, the flowing robes with plant tendrils weaving through them. Solid work.

The Blood Moon skinline is one of Riot’s longest running themes. Zyra joins a massive roster here including Kalista, Thresh, Akali, Diana. Kinda feels like Zyra should have gotten this skin years ago given how naturally her plant theme meshes with the demonic ritual aesthetic. The thorns become ceremonial, the flowers become offerings. It writes itself.

8 chromas total for this one. Tanzanite is my personal pick, the deep purple shifts the whole mood from Blood Moon ritual to something closer to a dark mage fantasy. Sapphire hits different too, the blue plants against the red Rift contrast is genuinely distracting for enemies in lane. I tested Pearl for a few games but went back quick, too bright for my taste, felt like playing a healbot instead of a zone control mage.

Should you pick up Blood Moon Zyra?

Real verdict: if you main Zyra or even play her as a pocket support pick, this is worth the 1350 RP. Sits in the shop permanently so no rush, but I wouldn’t wait for a sale either. The VFX clarity alone makes it a gameplay upgrade over base and several of her older skins.

Competition is stiff though. Coven Zyra exists and thats a strong contender. Dragon Sorceress still has fans. But Blood Moon Zyra fills a different niche, its less dark fantasy and more ritualistic. The red color palette is unique in her skin lineup. Been running this as my default Zyra skin since it dropped last April and havent looked back.

For Zyra one-tricks specifically: you already bought this, I know. For everyone else spamming her in ranked this season, 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The plant VFX carry hard in teamfights and the chromas give you options for months. Not the flashiest Epic in the game but it earns the price tag. Top pick for Zyra mains who want something that reads well in chaotic late-game fights around objectives. Skip it only if you’re already committed to Coven and dont need another option in the rotation.
