Blood Moon Master Yi

First time I saw Blood Moon Master Yi load into a game I thought someone was running a custom skin. The red oni mask, the flowing blood-red particles on Alpha Strike. Looked nothing like any Master Yi skin I’d played against before. Locked it in that same night and spammed it through Diamond for maybe two weeks straight.

What Blood Moon Master Yi actually brings

For 1350 RP you get the full Epic package here. New model, new VFX across every ability, and a custom recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no VO refresh. Standard for this price tier and honestly thats fine because Master Yi’s base voice does the job.

The Q is the highlight. Alpha Strike leaves these blood-red slash trails that feel cleaner than default. Not sure if it’s just me but the animation feels slightly snappier with this skin on. Probably placebo. The W meditation has this crimson aura pooling around Yi that reads well in lane and during teamfights when you’re trying to meditate through burst. E activation gives the blade a deep red glow, nothing crazy but it tracks well visually. R is where it gets good though. Highlander pops with this dark red energy trail and the movement speed buff just looks more threatening. Been running this in ranked and the R activation genuinely makes people back off in the bot lane specifically.

The recall animation has Yi performing this ritual sword dance with blood moon imagery. Clean execution. Could be wrong here but I think it’s one of the better recalls in the Blood Moon line, up there with Blood Moon Jhin’s.

Model wise, the oni mask is the centerpiece. Yi’s outfit swaps to traditional Japanese-inspired robes with red and black color scheme. The sword gets a curved ceremonial look. Fits the Blood Moon fantasy perfectly. Played maybe 200 games with this skin and the model still holds up well even though its from early 2020.

Blood Moon line and the details

Blood Moon Master Yi dropped February 20, 2020. Season 10. Xiao Guang Sun and West Studio handled the artwork, they cooked on the splash. Yi mid-leap with the mask glowing, cherry blossoms scattering. (Random aside: this splash was my desktop background for like three months straight.)

The Blood Moon skinline is one of Riot’s most consistent themes. Thresh, Jhin, Kalista, Evelynn – the line has heavy hitters. Master Yi fits naturally into it. The Wuju swordsman going full oni demon works thematically and the skin doesnt try to overcomplicate it. Simple concept, strong execution.

8 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my go-to, the all-black look turns Yi into something out of a horror game. Amethyst hits different too, deep purple energy on the abilities reads really well against the Rift. Pearl exists if you want the clean white aesthetic but honestly I keep coming back to Obsidian. The Ruby chroma feels redundant since the base skin is already red-heavy. Shop has it, permanent availability, grab whenever.

Should you buy Blood Moon Master Yi?

Real verdict: if you main Master Yi this is a top three skin for him. Competing with PROJECT Yi and Eternal Sword Yi depending on your taste. Blood Moon Master Yi leans harder into the fantasy aesthetic where PROJECT goes sci-fi.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX are clean, the model is sharp, the chromas give you options. Not gonna lie, I went back to this skin after trying PsyOps Master Yi for a few games because the Blood Moon particles just feel better during jungle clear and ganking sequences. Last season around November I had a stretch where I climbed from D4 to D2 running almost exclusively this skin on Yi. Correlation not causation obviously but the skin just puts me in a good headspace.

Skip it if you already own Eternal Sword and dont need another Yi skin in the rotation. But for Master Yi mains building a collection, Blood Moon is essential. S-tier cosmetic for the champion. The kind of skin that makes you want to lock in Yi even when your comp doesnt need it.
