Snowdown Showdown Skins

All 20 skins in the Snowdown Showdown skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Snowdown Showdown skin in League of Legends.

Snowdown Showdown is Riot's annual Christmas event skinline and honestly one of the most nostalgic collections in the game. Been playing since season 2 and every December the holiday skins just hit different. The whole aesthetic is candy canes, snow, Santa hats, and that cozy winter vibe you either love or find corny. I'm in the first camp. Not gonna lie, when December rolls around I swap half my skin loadout to Snowdown picks just for the vibes in ranked. 20 skins deep now, stretching all the way back to 2009, and the line still gets additions. Thats rare for a seasonal event.

What Ties Snowdown Showdown Together

The visual signature here is pretty straightforward. Red and green color palette, snow particles, holiday-themed recalls, and splash arts that look like they belong on a Christmas card your grandma would send. The earlier skins from 2009 through 2012 are simpler texture swaps with Santa hats slapped on, but the later Epics from 2015 onward actually put in work with custom VFX and animations. Huge difference between the two eras of this line.

Could be wrong here but I think what makes Snowdown work where other seasonal lines feel forced is that Riot leans into the humor. Nutcracko is literally Shaco as a nutcracker. Bad Santa Veigar is a grumpy mall Santa. These aren't trying to be cool or edgy. They're just fun. And in a game where every other skinline is "dark cosmic interdimensional warrior," having something lighthearted is actually refreshing.

Compare it to the Winter Wonder line or Winterblessed. Those go for the elegant ice queen aesthetic. Snowdown Showdown is the opposite. Ugly sweater energy. Santa hats. Reindeer antlers on Kog'Maw. The splash arts share this warm holiday lighting that ties them together visually even across different artists and years. (Random aside: the Bad Santa Veigar splash has been my Discord avatar every December since like 2019.)

The VFX on the Standard tier skins are minimal. You're mostly getting a model swap and maybe some snow particles on abilities. The four Epics is where you actually see custom particle work. Santa Draven's axes become wrapped presents, Ambitious Elf Jinx gets full holiday-themed rocket and minigun VFX. Night and day difference. If you're picking up Snowdown skins for the gameplay feel, stick to the Epics. The Standards are purely for the look.

Best Snowdown Showdown Skins

Real talk though, the standout is Santa Draven. Played maybe 60 games on it last December in Diamond and the skin just feels right. Draven already has that showboat personality and putting him in a Santa outfit with present-throwing axes is peak character design. The recall animation where he sits in a sleigh is clean. Epic tier at 1350 RP and it earns every point. Best ADC holiday skin in the game, not even close.

Santa Braum comes in second for me. Braum's whole personality already fits the jolly Santa archetype so well that it almost feels like the champion was designed for this skin. His shield becomes a giant present, the Q is a snowball. Been running this in ranked support games since it dropped and the amount of "nice skin" comments I get in chat is wild. 1350 RP well spent for Braum mains.

Ambitious Elf Jinx surprised me. Didn't expect much from it when it released back in 2017 but the elf workshop theme works with Jinx's chaotic energy. Her minigun and rocket launcher get full holiday reskins and the VFX on the ult are genuinely good. Kinda feels like Riot put extra effort into the Jinx skin because she was already one of their most popular champions at the time. 1350 RP, solid pickup.

Reindeer Smolder is the newest addition and it's cute. Smolder already has that baby dragon energy and putting reindeer antlers on him just works. Not sure if it's just me but the fire breath VFX with the red-nosed reindeer particles made me smile the first time I saw it in game. Good skin. Might be the best Smolder option depending on your taste.

Mistletoe LeBlanc deserves a mention even though it's Standard tier. Something about the model just looks clean in game. 520 RP so basically free. No custom VFX obviously but if you play LeBlanc and want something festive its a no-brainer. Locked this in for ARAM games last winter and got compliments on it twice in one night around 11 PM, which never happens with cheap skins.

The Champion Roster

20 champions in Snowdown Showdown and honestly the roster makes sense for the most part. You've got your obvious fits like Braum and Nunu & Willump. Those two were born for Christmas skins. Santa Gragas is another natural pick because the dude already looks like Santa without a skin. Workshop Nunu with Willump as a snowman? Chef's kiss.

Some picks feel more random. Katarina in a Slay Belle outfit is... fine I guess? Feels more like Riot wanted to sell a sexy Christmas skin than Kat actually fitting the holiday theme. Same energy with Snow Bunny Nidalee from way back in 2009. Not gonna lie, those early skins were a different era of Riot's design philosophy.

The ones that nail it are the comedy picks. Nutcracko turns Shaco into a literal nutcracker and it's terrifying in the best way. Bad Santa Veigar is a tiny angry mall Santa which is exactly what Veigar's personality already is. Re-Gifted Amumu is Amumu wrapped in gift paper that nobody wanted. (Sidebar for Amumu mains: you know the pain.) Snowmerdinger gives Heimerdinger turrets that look like little Christmas trees. These skins understand their champions.

Who should get a Snowdown skin next? Been thinking about this. Bard feels obvious. His whole wandering cosmic vibe could translate to a jolly gift-deliverer easily. Ivern is literally a tree so a Christmas Ivern skin writes itself. Maybe Zac as a giant ornament? Might be overthinking it but the line has room to grow if Riot decides to bring back the Snowdown event properly.

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

Here's where Snowdown Showdown shows its age. 16 out of 20 skins are Standard tier. That means most of this line is 520 to 975 RP skins with minimal VFX changes. The four Epics at 1350 RP carry the entire line in terms of quality. No Legendaries. No Mythics. No Ultimates. Just Standards and Epics.

This isn't necessarily bad. The price range of 520 to 1350 RP means you can grab multiple Snowdown skins for the price of one Legendary elsewhere. Spammed ranked last December with a full Snowdown loadout on three different champions and it cost me less than a single Ultimate skin. Good value if you're into the seasonal aesthetic.

The lack of a Legendary hurts though. Imagine a Legendary Santa Braum with full new VO, unique interactions, the works. Or a Legendary Snowdown Jinx with custom dialogue about being on the naughty list. Riot left money on the table here. The line peaked at Epic tier and never pushed higher. Maybe if Snowdown events come back they'll change that but I'm not holding my breath. Season 9 or 10 was the last time Snowdown felt like a proper event, dont remember exactly.

For what it is, the pricing is fair. You're not getting robbed at 520-975 for the Standards. They're holiday costume skins, they do the job. The Epics at 1350 are where the real value sits. If you're only buying one Snowdown skin, make it Santa Draven or Santa Braum.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Snowdown Showdown skins are there?

20 skins total in the Snowdown Showdown line. The collection spans from 2009 all the way to recent additions like Reindeer Smolder. Most of them are Standard tier with four Epics rounding out the top end. Decent sized roster for a seasonal event line, been collecting them over the years and theres always one more I'm missing.

What is the best Snowdown Showdown skin?

Santa Draven. Not even a contest in my opinion. The present-throwing axes, the sleigh recall, the whole vibe. 1350 RP Epic tier and it delivers on every front. Been my go-to Draven skin every December. Santa Braum is a close second if you play support, his kit just fits the Santa theme perfectly.

Which champions have Snowdown Showdown skins?

20 champions total. The big names include Jinx, Draven, Braum, Miss Fortune, Katarina, Teemo, and Smolder among others. Good mix of roles from ADC to support to mid. Not gonna lie, some fit the theme better than others but Riot spread the love across most positions on the Rift.

Does Snowdown Showdown have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries in the Snowdown Showdown line. The highest tier available is Epic at 1350 RP, with four skins at that level. Rest are all Standard tier. Honestly feels like a missed opportunity. A Legendary Santa Braum or holiday Jinx with full new VO would've been an easy sell. Maybe someday.

When did the Snowdown Showdown skinline release?

First Snowdown skins dropped in 2009, making this one of the oldest skinlines in League. Happy Elf Teemo and Snow Bunny Nidalee were among the originals. The line kept getting additions through 2017 and beyond. Literally older than most players in my ranked games at this point.

Are Snowdown Showdown skins worth buying?

The four Epics are absolutely worth it. Santa Draven, Santa Braum, Ambitious Elf Jinx, and Reindeer Smolder all deliver solid VFX and model changes for 1350 RP. The Standards are hit or miss. Some like Nutcracko and Bad Santa Veigar have enough personality to justify 520-975 RP. Others are just a Santa hat on a base model. Pick selectively.

Do Snowdown Showdown skins have chromas?

Some of the newer Snowdown skins have chromas but the older Standards mostly don't. The Epic tier skins are more likely to have chroma options. Not a huge chroma selection compared to newer skinlines though. Riot wasn't really doing chromas when most of these skins originally released back in 2009 through 2014.

Will Riot make more Snowdown Showdown skins?

Could be wrong here but I think Riot shifted away from the Snowdown branding toward Winterblessed in recent years. The Snowdown event hasn't run in its classic form for a while. That said, Reindeer Smolder shows they still add to it occasionally. Whether we get a proper Snowdown event again is anyone's guess. I'd love to see it come back.
