Not gonna lie, when Riot announced Ryze as the Worlds 2019 representative I had mixed feelings. Ryze already had a stacked wardrobe at that point and the dude gets reworked every other season anyway. But then I saw the splash and the blue-gold color scheme clicked. Played maybe 40 games with it that October right after it dropped, mostly in Diamond, and the skin grew on me fast.
What the Worlds 2019 treatment actually changes
This is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP so you get the full package minus new voice lines. Voice stays default. The VFX overhaul is where the money went and it shows. Ryze’s Q bolts swap from the usual purple-blue to this deep championship gold with blue accents trailing behind. Clean. His W root circle gets the Worlds branding treatment with what looks like the tournament’s sigil pattern on the ground, and honestly in a teamfight it reads better than base.
E spread has this satisfying golden ripple effect. Feels like youre marking territory on the Rift. The R portal is the real showpiece though. Full Worlds-branded teleport circle, golden particles everywhere. Took this into a ranked game around 3 AM one Saturday and my whole team stopped to watch the Realm Warp animation. Worth.
Recall animation is new. Ryze holds up the Summoner’s Cup, which is a nice touch for the esports crowd. Could be wrong here but I think the trophy model is actually detailed enough to make out the handles and base. Small thing that Riot didnt have to do but they did it anyway.
The model itself puts Ryze in this championship jersey-inspired outfit. Blue and gold throughout, with the Worlds 2019 logo on the back. Scroll is reskinned too. Not a dramatic silhouette change from base but the color palette alone makes him pop against the Rift’s green.
The Worlds skinline and where this fits
Released September 26, 2019. Right before the main event kicked off that year. The World Championship skinline has been Riot’s annual tradition for a while and Ryze joining it made sense given his lore ties to collecting world runes. Thematic overlap there whether Riot intended it or not.
Worlds 2019 Ryze comes with one chroma. Golden. Just the one. It pushes the gold elements even harder, swapping most of the blue for full gold coverage. Kinda feels like it should have been the prestige version if prestige existed for Worlds skins back then. The Golden chroma honestly looks cleaner than the base version in my opinion. More cohesive color story.
Legacy vault skin. You cant just walk into the shop and grab it whenever. Hextech only these days unless Riot rotates it back during a Worlds event window. (Random aside: I got the Golden chroma from a chest in season 11 and didnt even realize it was rare until my duo pointed it out.) Been maining Ryze with this off and on since 2019 and the exclusivity factor is part of the appeal.
Compared to Ryze’s other options
Ryze has a massive skin catalog. SKT T1 Ryze exists for esports fans too but that one feels dated. Dark Crystal Ryze goes harder on fantasy. Guardian of the Sands is solid. But Worlds 2019 sits in this unique spot where it’s sporty and clean without being boring. The VFX carry it above most of his 1350 RP options.
For Ryze mains specifically, the Q spam in lane with those gold particles is satisfying on a level thats hard to explain. Every time you proc your passive and start machine-gunning abilities the screen just lights up gold. Pre-6 laning feels better somehow. Placebo maybe but I swear the animations feel snappier.
Should you pick this up?
Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Strong VFX, solid model, the recall with the Summoner’s Cup is cool. No new VO but thats standard at this price point. The Golden chroma is the better version. Skip the base coloring if you can get your hands on the chroma.
Main issue is availability. Sits in the Legacy pool so you’re at the mercy of Hextech crafting or event shop rotations. If it shows up during Worlds season grab it. Been running this in my Ryze rotation for five years now and it still holds up against his newer releases. Not the flashiest Ryze skin but one of the most consistently clean ones. Top pick for Ryze mains who care about esports heritage. Real talk though, if you dont play Ryze regularly, dont chase it in loot. Save your orange essence for something you’ll actually use in ranked.
