Been maining Tryndamere on and off since season 4 and this is one of those skins that just sticks around in rotation. Warring Kingdoms Tryndamere dropped back in January 2014 and I remember picking it up during that Lunar Revel event window. Not gonna lie, it still holds up way better than it has any right to for a skin this old.

What the skin actually changes

So at 975 RP this is a Standard tier skin. No new VFX on the abilities, no voice filter, base VO stays the same. What you get is a full model swap that leans hard into the Chinese warlord fantasy. Red and gold armor, flowing cape, and the sword redesign is genuinely solid. Feels heavier somehow even though the animations are identical.

The recall animation is custom though. Tryndamere does this warrior salute thing that fits the theme. Small touch but it matters when you’re splitpushing top and recalling 40 times a game. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across multiple seasons and the recall never gets old. The rest of his kit, Q heal, W chicken, E spin, R ult, all use default particles. For a 975 skin from 2014 thats expected.

Kinda feels like they put all the budget into the model and splash and called it a day. Fair enough. The armor detail on the shoulders and the gold trim on his gauntlets read well in lane. Not flashy but clean. You know what surprised me? The sword actually looks distinct from other Tryndamere skins at a glance, which matters in teamfights when your backline needs to track who’s diving them.

The Warring Kingdoms line and release context

Part of the Lunar Revel: Warring Kingdoms skinline, which Riot used to push hard every January. Pan Chengwei nailed the splash on this one. The composition puts Tryndamere in this dramatic battlefield pose with cherry blossoms and war banners. Classic Three Kingdoms energy.

Released January 28, 2014. Late season 3 vibes, right before the big season 4 changes settled in. The Warring Kingdoms line gave us some bangers across champions like Jarvan, Katarina, Nidalee. Tryndamere fits the theme naturally since his whole kit is about being an unkillable warrior diving into fights and refusing to die. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like eight months straight.)

Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it any time. Sits in the vault and comes back during Lunar Revel sales usually. If you see it in the shop rotation around January or February, thats your window. Otherwise you’re rolling Hextech chests and hoping.

Should you pick this up?

Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The model is strong, the recall is nice, and the Warring Kingdoms aesthetic ages well because it leans on clean design instead of flashy effects that look dated after two years. Could be wrong here but I think this is a top three Tryndamere skin for players who want something with weight to it.

If you’re a Tryndamere one-trick grinding ranked and splitpushing every game, you probably already own this. If not, keep an eye on the shop around Lunar Revel. I ran this exclusively for about six weeks last February in Diamond and got compliments on it twice, which for a Tryndamere skin is basically a standing ovation. Skip Demonblade if you’re on a budget and grab this instead. The warlord look just hits different when you’re diving their ADC under tower at level 6 and pressing R with zero hesitation.
