Underworld Twisted Fate released October 26, 2012 as part of Riot’s Trick-or-Treat Halloween drop. Season 2 era, before ranked felt as sweaty as it does now. Been running this on and off since season four, and for a 975 RP Standard skin it holds up better than I expected when I first grabbed it. The concept is simple: graveyard card conjurer. For Twisted Fate, it fits.
What actually changes with Underworld Twisted Fate
New VFX is the real selling point here, and thats above average for a Standard skin at this price point. The card particles shift to a muted, darker palette – your Gold Card on the W reads sickly and greenish rather than the base skin’s bright casino yellow. Playing TF in lane with this equipped, the Pick a Card animation feels like you’re pulling something out of a curse rather than a trick deck. Small visual change. Different feel entirely during a teamfight when you need that Gold Card stun to land on their backline.
Model is a full aesthetic overhaul – hooded cloak, skeletal detail work, nothing subtle about the Halloween theme. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected for 975 RP. Owen Thomas’s Twisted Fate delivery holds up without any new lines. No new recall animation either, so what you’re paying for is the model and the VFX work specifically.
Not sure if it’s just me but this skin makes TF’s ult feel more dramatic. The card imagery during Gate reads differently with this dark palette – not a mechanical change, just a vibe shift that makes roaming feel purposeful. Might be overthinking it. Still.
Trick-or-Treat skinline and the October 2012 release
The Trick-or-Treat skinline is Riot’s seasonal Halloween catch-all – no deep lore, just themed cosmetics grouped by occasion. Underworld Twisted Fate fits naturally. TF already has a conjurer energy in his base design, so putting him in a death cult aesthetic is a short conceptual leap that works better here than it does for some other champions in the same line.
Kienan ‘Knockwurst’ Lafferty handled the splash art. Solid composition, the hood and card placement read cleanly, and the lighting conveys dark magic without being overdone. For a 2012 piece it aged well – better than most of the era-contemporaries. (random aside: this splash lived as someone’s desktop wallpaper in my old gaming Discord for about two years straight, and I respect the commitment to the bit)
Sits in the legacy vault now. You’re not walking into the shop and buying Underworld Twisted Fate on impulse – need to roll it from chests or catch a Harrowing legacy event. Seen maybe two of these in my Diamond games all last season. That rarity turns a decent skin into a collector piece for TF mains who’ve been spamming this champion since season three.
Is Underworld Twisted Fate worth 975 RP?
Real verdict: yes, for TF mains specifically. The VFX upgrade alone separates this from generic texture-swap Standards at the same price. The Halloween aesthetic is specific enough that if that vibe doesn’t click for you, other Twisted Fate skins will serve you better. But if the Trick-or-Treat skinline theme appeals and you’re locking TF in for ranked, Underworld is the Standard pick. Legacy vault is the frustrating part – you’re at the mercy of the chest system and can’t just grab it. Worth 975 if you main TF. Casual players can skip it without missing much.
