Trials of Twilight Xin Zhao

Saw Trials of Twilight Xin Zhao for the first time in a ranked lobby last Saturday night – opponent locked jungle Xin and I spent half the loading screen studying the skin. The Chronicle skinline puts Xin Zhao in this dark fantasy tournament aesthetic. Full armor redesign. Spear with a different silhouette. Been daily driving it in Diamond since I picked it up and it holds up better than expected.

What actually changes in-game

Not gonna lie – this Epic has a real limitation. No new VFX on any abilities. Q, W, E, ult all run base particles. No new recall animation either. Voice lines stay base. For an Epic tier skin thats a notable absence and worth knowing before you spend the RP. You’re buying a model and texture upgrade here, full stop. The visual design has to carry everything on its own, which it mostly does.

The model earns its price though. Twilight armor in deep purples and layered silver – the color execution is better than most of his other skins in terms of visual clarity. Spear model reads differently from base. Had a ranked game two weeks ago where I was diving the enemy backline through four teamfights and the skin held up the whole time. Three Talon Strike combo, the W knockup, R Crescent Guard activation – all readable even when the Rift was a mess. Solid.

Splash is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for first impressions. The composition is strong – Xin Zhao mid-charge, spear extended, twilight sky backdrop. In-game model is good but not spectacular. “Good Epic” is a real category and Trials of Twilight Xin Zhao lands squarely there.

Chronicle skinline and why it fits

The Chronicle line is Riot’s high-fantasy tournament concept. Gladiatorial competition aesthetic, elaborate armor, challenge-of-champions energy. Xin Zhao slots into this thematically in a way that actually makes sense – his lore literally involves fighting his way out of Noxian arena pits, so Chronicle Trials of Twilight puts him back in that context visually. The spear details, armor markings, and splash composition all track to the contest-of-champions vibe. Better thematic fit than a lot of his other skins, which mostly just slap a costume on him.

(random aside: been maining Xin Zhao since season 10 and this is maybe the first time a Xin skin felt like it actually understood what the champion is about)

5 chromas available for Trials of Twilight Xin Zhao. Worthy goes deep royal blue – clean, intentional, reads better than base in certain lighting. Obsidian is near-black armor which works for any dark aesthetic comp or if you want to look menacing pre-6. Rose Quartz is the oddball pick: pink spear warrior somehow works, and mains who run it seem to love the contrast. Two more round out the set for variety.

Is Trials of Twilight Xin Zhao worth buying

If you’re spamming Xin Zhao in Diamond or hardstuck climbing with him as your main carry, this skin is worth it at Epic tier. Model is good, the Chronicle thematic fit is strong, and the chroma variety genuinely extends how the skin looks across different games. Still in the shop – no urgency, grab it when you feel like it.

Casual Xin players doing jungle clear duty or occasional engage should probably pass. No VFX means the skill expression doesn’t feel different, only the look does. One-tricks and dedicated mains are who this was built for.

Could be wrong here but Worthy is the best chroma of the five. Blue tones land cleaner than the default twilight palette and make his engage pattern read sharper on screen. If you’re buying this Epic, factor in Worthy as part of the cost. Worth it for Xin Zhao mains.
