Reindeer Smolder

Not gonna lie, when I first saw Reindeer Smolder pop up in the shop I thought Riot was trolling. A baby dragon dressed up as a reindeer for the Snowdown Showdown line. Sounds ridiculous on paper. But then I locked it in for a few normals and something about this little guy just clicked. The holiday theme fits Smolder’s personality way more than it should.

How Reindeer Smolder actually looks in game

So the model swap here is clean. Smolder gets antlers, a red nose, and what looks like a cozy holiday sweater texture across his body. The color palette shifts from his default warm orange to a deeper red and brown combo with green accents. Festive without being obnoxious. Standard voice lines, no VO refresh on this one.

Since this is an Epic skin with no new VFX listed, you’re mostly looking at the model and texture changes carrying the weight. His Q still fires the same way but the base particles blend well with the reindeer aesthetic. Could be wrong here but I think theres a slight warmth to the fire effects that reads more “cozy fireplace” than “dragon breath.” Might just be the color context messing with my head though.

The recall animation keeps things simple. Smolder doing Smolder things. No dramatic new recall here, which for a Snowdown skin feels about right. Riot doesnt always go all-out on the holiday skins at this tier and honestly its fine for what it is. Been running this in my Diamond games since it dropped and nobody’s complained about clarity or anything. The antlers read well even in chaotic teamfights.

(Random aside: my duo partner keeps calling it “Rudolph” in voice chat and I cant even correct him because yeah, thats basically what it is.)

Snowdown Showdown and the holiday treatment

Reindeer Smolder slots into the Snowdown Showdown skinline, which is one of Riot’s longest-running seasonal themes. The Snowdown line has some bangers and some duds. This one lands somewhere in the middle for me. Smolder being a newer champion means he doesnt have a massive skin catalog yet, so any addition feels significant.

No splash artist credited in the data I’ve seen. The splash itself captures the vibe though. Little dragon with antlers looking proud of himself. Classic Smolder energy.

8 chromas total if you want variety. Amethyst is the one I keep coming back to, the purple shifts the whole skin from “holiday cute” to “holiday mysterious” which hits different. Obsidian goes full dark mode reindeer, kinda edgy for a Snowdown skin but it works. Pearl is the cleanest if you want something subtle. The rest are solid but those three stood out after maybe 30 games of testing each one last week.

Availability wise, shop has it. Epic tier pricing. Permanent shop, so no rush to grab it during any specific event window. Kinda feels like Riot priced this fairly for what you get. Model changes plus eight chroma options give you plenty to work with.

Worth picking up for Smolder mains?

Real talk though. Smolder is still a relatively fresh champion on the Rift. His kit revolves around scaling, stacking that passive, farming up in lane and then becoming a late-game monster. The Reindeer skin doesnt change any of that gameplay loop but it makes the grind more entertaining. Something about cs-ing with a reindeer dragon in bot lane at 2 AM on a Tuesday just hits different.

Been maining Smolder with this skin for a solid stretch now. The skin reads well in teamfights, the chromas give you options, and the Snowdown Showdown theme is charming without being over the top. Skip it if you’re waiting for a Legendary Smolder skin with new voice lines and full VFX overhaul. Fair enough.

But if you one-trick Smolder or even just have him in your ADC rotation, Reindeer Smolder is a comfortable pickup. Not the flashiest Epic skin Riot has ever made. Not trying to be. It knows what it is: a holiday skin for a baby dragon, executed with enough polish to justify the price tag. Played this into a ranked game where my Kayn inted three times before level 6 and the skin still put a smile on my face. That counts for something.
