First game I played with PROJECT: Jax was around 3 AM on a Wednesday, just after the patch dropped in March 2024. Locked it in immediately. Not gonna lie, seeing Jax get the PROJECT treatment after all these years felt overdue. The Grandmaster at Arms fits the cyberpunk augmented-warrior aesthetic so naturally that I’m kinda surprised it took Riot this long. The lamppost is now a full-on energy weapon and the whole silhouette reads differently in lane.
How PROJECT: Jax actually plays
The VFX overhaul is where this skin earns its 1350 RP. Jax’s Q leap leaves a trail of cyan data fragments behind him, and the landing impact has this digital shockwave that looks clean against the Rift floor. W proc hits with a burst of neon circuitry. Solid visual feedback. You know what surprised me? The E – Counter Strike has this hexagonal shield grid that spins around him, and when it stuns it shatters into polygonal shards. Been running this in Diamond ranked for weeks and the stun timing actually feels easier to read with the new particles.
R passive hits land with weight too. Every third auto gets that PROJECT glow-up and the sound design carries it. Theres a satisfying digital crunch on impact that base Jax just doesnt have. The recall animation is Jax interfacing with some kind of PROJECT terminal, uploading combat data or whatever the lore justification is. Cool enough. Not the flashiest recall in the skinline but it fits.
Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin. Erik Braa’s voice work on Jax is already iconic so I dont mind keeping it. (Random aside: I still quote “imagine if I had a real weapon” at least once per session in voice chat and my duo hates it.)
The PROJECT line and where Jax lands
PROJECT released March 6, 2024. Late season 14, right when the map changes were still fresh. Ina Wong and West Studio handled the splash art and they nailed the cyberpunk atmosphere. Jax standing in some neon-lit corridor with his energy lamppost crackling. Strong composition.
The PROJECT skinline is massive at this point. We’re talking Vayne, Yasuo, Irelia, Pyke, Mordekaiser. Heavy hitters. Jax fits right in with the bruiser-assassin vibe the line has going. Could be wrong here but I think PROJECT Jax reads as one of the cleaner designs in the recent batch. Not overdesigned, not cluttered. Just a cyborg dude with a glowing stick ready to bonk you in a teamfight.
8 chromas total. Obsidian is my pick if you want the dark ops look, it strips the color down to black and grey with minimal glow. Looks menacing when you’re splitpushing top and the enemy sees you walking out of fog. Sapphire shifts the whole palette to deep blue and reads almost like a different skin entirely. Ruby exists for the Ruby collectors but it blends into the base PROJECT red a bit too much for my taste. Shop has it, permanent availability, grab whichever chroma matches your vibe.
Is PROJECT: Jax worth 1350 RP?
Okay, the real question. Jax has a stacked skin lineup. God Staff exists. Mecha Kingdoms exists. Conqueror Jax is solid. Where does PROJECT land?
For me it sits comfortably in the top three. Maybe just my experience but the VFX clarity on this one makes it feel like a gameplay upgrade. The E shield is so much easier to track in a chaotic teamfight compared to base or even God Staff. I played maybe 40 games with it in the first two weeks after release and I kept noticing moments where the visual feedback helped me time abilities better. Might be overthinking it but the particle clarity matters when you’re diving the backline as Jax and need to know exactly when Counter Strike pops.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the kit, new recall, solid splash. No new voice but thats expected at this price point. If you’re a Jax main or even just someone who plays him in the top lane rotation, PROJECT is worth the pickup. If you already own God Staff and you’re happy with it, you could skip this one. But for Jax one-tricks who want variety in their skin rotation, this is an easy add. S-tier Jax cosmetic that I keep coming back to even after the novelty wore off. The Obsidian chroma specifically has been my go-to Jax skin this season when I need to lock in for a ranked game and want to feel like I mean business.
