Prestige Battle Lion Leona

First game I locked in Prestige Battle Lion Leona was around 1 AM on a Wednesday. Couldn’t sleep, figured I’d run a few ranked games. The loading screen hit and I just sat there staring at the splash. Ina Wong and West Studio went hard on the splash, and it shows. Gold and white with that lion motif cranked up to prestige levels. Honestly not gonna lie, I expected a lazy recolor of the base Battle Lion. What I got was something that actually made me feel like engaging in bot lane again.

VFX and the prestige treatment

So the base Battle Lion Leona already looked solid. The prestige version takes every particle effect and dips it in liquid gold. Her Q proc has this clean burst that reads well even in chaotic teamfights. The W shield effect wraps around her with these golden lion mane particles that I think look better than most Legendary skins manage. Big claim. Standing by it.

The E skillshot leaves a trail that actually helps me track the hitbox in lane, which is rare for a cosmetic upgrade. Been maining Leona with this skin since it dropped and the visual clarity on E specifically has made me more confident throwing it through minion waves to catch their ADC off guard. Could be wrong here but I swear the animation feels snappier too, even though I know its the same frame data.

Her R is the real showpiece. Solar Flare comes down with this prestige golden explosion that fills the screen without being obnoxious. Dropped it on a four-man engage near dragon pit last week and my support duo literally said “what was that” in voice chat. The recall animation got the prestige treatment too. New recall with the lion imagery really sells the Anima Squad commander fantasy. Voice lines stay base though, no new VO which is expected at this tier.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which makes sense for a prestige skin since the whole point is the exclusive colorway. You get gold and white or you dont get it at all.

Anima Squad and how Leona fits

The Anima Squad skinline has been one of Riot’s stronger thematic sets. Military-meets-anime with animal motifs. Leona as a lion commander slots in perfectly because her kit already screams frontline engage tank. The skinline context matters here because Anima Squad skins tend to have cohesive VFX across the roster, and Prestige Battle Lion Leona matches that standard.

Released July 31, 2024. Mid-season drop. I remember because I was grinding through Diamond at the time and every other Leona player in my games suddenly had either the base or prestige version equipped. Seen maybe 5 or 6 of the prestige specifically across all my games since then, which feels about right for a Mythic skin. Not super rare but not everywhere either.

This is a Mythic tier skin with special pricing, meaning you’re not just dropping RP in the shop. You need Mythic Essence or whatever the current prestige currency situation is. Available through the crafting system. Wendee Lee still voicing Leona here, same as always, and her performance carries even without new lines.

Leona’s skin lineup and where this ranks

Leona has a stacked roster. Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse are both phenomenal. Project Leona exists. Pool Party is a classic. Mecha Kingdoms goes hard. Battle Academia got its own prestige. So where does Prestige Battle Lion Leona land in all of this?

Real talk though, it depends on what you value. If you want the cleanest VFX on a Leona skin, Solar Eclipse or Lunar Eclipse still win. Those are Legendaries with full packages. But if you want something exclusive that reads “I was there for the Anima Squad event” then this prestige version does that job better than almost any other Leona cosmetic. (Random aside: I keep this splash as my Discord profile picture and people always ask what game it’s from.)

For Leona mains who peel and engage in every teamfight, the gold particles actually help your team track your engage. Not sure if it’s just me but I feel like my ADC follows up faster when they see the flashy golden E connect. Might be overthinking it but the visual clarity argument is real. In my Diamond games specifically, that half-second of recognition matters.

The honest take

Should you chase this? If you’re a Leona one-trick, absolutely. Mythic Essence is a grind but Prestige Battle Lion Leona earns its spot in the collection. The VFX upgrade over the base Battle Lion version is significant enough to justify the effort. Spammed this in Diamond for two months straight after release and haven’t gone back to my old rotation of Eclipse skins.

If you only play Leona occasionally for autofill support, skip it. Save your Mythic Essence for a champion you actually main. The skin is clean but it’s not going to convert you into a Leona player. For the dedicated Leona mains though, this sits comfortably in the top three Leona skins. Solar Eclipse, Lunar Eclipse, and this. That’s the lineup. Top pick for Leona mains who want something different from the Eclipse duo without sacrificing visual quality.
