Monster Tamer Veigar

First game I played with Monster Tamer Veigar was around 1 AM on a weeknight, queued up for a Diamond ranked game and immediately noticed how clean the VFX looked. The whole anime creature-collector vibe hits different on Veigar specifically. Tiny evil yordle commanding magical monsters? Feels like Riot designed the entire Monster Tamers line just so Veigar could be in it. Not gonna lie, I wasnt expecting much when they announced the skinline but this one surprised me.

How Monster Tamer Veigar plays on the Rift

The Q fires off with this bright energy bolt that reads really well in lane. Compared to base Veigar, the particle is tighter and the color pops against most Rift backgrounds. Your W drops down with a creature-themed impact zone, and honestly in teamfights its easier to track than some of his other skins. The cage on E keeps the dark energy aesthetic but wraps it in the Monster Tamers color palette. Purples and pinks everywhere.

His ult is the standout. Big creature summon energy slamming into whatever backline ADC thought they were safe. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in ranked and the R animation feels slightly different in timing. Could be wrong here but the windup visual seems more telegraphed than base, which might actually matter if you’re trying to burst someone pre-6 or catch a gank target off guard.

The recall animation is where the skin earns points. Veigar interacts with his little monster companion, and it’s one of those recalls you actually want to watch instead of spam-clicking the shop. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for a 1350 RP Epic tier skin. The model itself is clean though. Staff redesign looks good, the outfit fits the theme without being too busy.

Monster Tamer Veigar dropped August 11, 2022. Mid-season 12 release. Fortune ‘Fortuneee’ K nailed the splash, the composition puts Veigar front and center with his creatures flanking him. Strong portfolio piece honestly.

The Monster Tamers line launched alongside Monster Tamer Lulu, and I think Veigar got the better end of the deal. Both yordles, both fit the theme, but Veigar’s darker energy contrasts with the cute creature aesthetic in a way that just works. The skinline draws from anime like Pokemon and Digimon. Riot leaned into that hard. (random aside: my duo partner bought both Monster Tamer skins day one and I roasted him for it but then I locked in Veigar with this skin three games later so who’s really the clown here)

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to, turns the whole palette dark and edgy which fits Veigar’s personality way better than the base pink-purple. Rainbow is the flashy pick if you want to stand out in loading screen, gives it this holographic creature-trainer energy. Sapphire runs a clean blue that reads well against the green of Summoner’s Rift. Rest are solid but those three carry the chroma set.

Is Monster Tamer Veigar worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: if you main Veigar, this skin competes with Final Boss and Astronaut for the top spot. Different vibes entirely. Final Boss is the meme legacy pick, Astronaut is clean and modern, Monster Tamer is the anime option. Been running this in my Diamond games since last season and I keep coming back to it over Elderwood and Omega Squad.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, good model. No new voice lines but thats expected at this price point. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense. Kinda feels like this skin flies under the radar compared to Veigar’s flashier options. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season, which is a shame because the VFX clarity is genuinely good for climbing. You know what surprised me? The E cage particles. They read cleaner than Final Boss in chaotic teamfights where peel and disengage matter.

Skip it if you already own Astronaut and only play Veigar occasionally. But for one-tricks grinding ranked and spamming Veigar through Diamond? Top pick for Veigar mains. Simple call.
