Galactic Renekton

First Renekton skin I ever used. Back in season 1 when I had no idea what I was doing in top lane, Galactic Renekton was the coolest thing I could afford. 520 RP felt like a steal even then. Not gonna lie, loading into a game with that purple space croc energy hit different when everyone else was running default skins.

What Galactic Renekton actually changes

So this is a Standard tier skin from 2011. Manage your expectations. You get a full model swap and some tweaked VFX, but voice lines stay base and there’s no unique recall animation. Patrick Seitz still doing his thing on the VO, which honestly works fine because Renekton’s base voice is already aggressive enough.

The model itself goes full sci-fi lizard warrior. Deep purple and silver armor plating replaces the Egyptian aesthetic. His blade gets this metallic sheen that reads well in lane. Kinda feels like Riot took the “what if Renekton was an alien warlord” concept and just ran with it. The VFX adjustments are subtle but present. Your Q slice has a slightly different particle color, and the W stun feels crunchier visually even if thats probably just placebo from the skin’s darker palette.

In teamfights the skin holds up okay. Not great, not terrible. The purple armor stands out enough against the Rift that your engages and dives read clearly. I played maybe 40 games with this skin back in the day and never had an issue with ability clarity. One thing I noticed in bot lane skirmishes specifically: the ult circle blends a bit with certain terrain. Minor gripe.

The Galactic line and some history

Released January 18, 2011. Ancient by League standards. Sean McNally did the splash, and for a skin from that era the artwork holds up respectably. The Galactic skinline is one of Riot’s smaller thematic collections. Not the sprawling universe that Star Guardian or PROJECT became. Just a handful of space-themed skins from the early days.

Legacy vault skin. You cant just walk into the shop and grab it anymore. Hextech crafting or waiting for a Legacy sale event is your path here. Been playing since season 2 and I think I’ve seen maybe 5 Galactic Renektons in my Diamond games total. Real talk though, the scarcity gives it a weird flex factor that newer skins dont have.

(Random aside: I keep this skin in my rotation purely for nostalgia. My duo partner roasts me every time I lock it in over Blackfrost or Pool Party.)

Is Galactic Renekton worth 520 RP?

Straight talk: if you’re a Renekton main climbing through ranked and you want the best possible skin, this isnt it. Pool Party, Blackfrost, PROJECT – all better executions with more features. Renekton has one of the deeper skin pools in the game and Galactic sits in the bottom third objectively.

But. There’s something about rocking a season 1 Legacy skin that newer releases cant replicate. Last Wednesday around midnight I pulled this out in a Diamond game and my Kayn jungler typed “respect” in chat before we even hit lane. 520 RP is the cheapest tier Riot offers, and for that price the model quality overdelivers compared to other 520 skins from the same era.

Could be wrong here but I think Galactic Renekton appeals to a specific type of player. The one-trick who’s been spamming the croc since pre-6 cheese was the meta. The collector who wants every Renekton skin in the vault. If you’re neither of those, skip it and save for something with new animations. Fair price for the package if you can even find it in the Legacy pool, but Renekton mains have better options for their RP these days. Worth owning for the history alone.
