Death Sworn Katarina

First time I saw Death Sworn Katarina load in was during a ranked game around 2 AM, season 7. My support pinged question mark on the skin like three times. Couldnt blame him. The ghostly green VFX on her daggers caught me off guard too. This is one of those skins that reads completely different in-game versus the splash, and honestly I think thats a good thing.

The spectral glow on every ability

Death Sworn Katarina swaps out the standard steel-and-red aesthetic for a full undead warrior look. Pale skin, ghostly armor, those wispy green particle trails on everything she touches. The Q bouncing blade leaves this faint emerald trace between targets. Clean read in teamfights, never lost track of where my daggers landed.

Her E, Shunpo, gets the biggest visual upgrade for an Epic tier skin. The blink has this spectral afterimage effect. Not gonna lie, it feels faster even though it obviously isnt. Placebo is real. The W ground dagger pickup has matching green energy that pulses outward. Solid work across the kit.

Ult is where it comes together. Death Lotus with the Death Sworn VFX turns Katarina into this spinning vortex of ghostly blades. Been running this in Diamond and the visual pressure it creates when you dive the backline is noticeable. People panic a half-second earlier. Could be wrong here but I think the green particles just read as more threatening than base.

The recall animation deserves a mention. Katarina summons spectral energy and does this ritual-style pose before vanishing. Fits the theme perfectly. Base voice lines, no new VO, which is expected at 1350 RP.

Death Sworn and the Halloween 2017 drop

Released October 25, 2017. Right before that year’s Harrowing event. Jennifer Wuestling nailed the splash – Katarina standing among the dead with that cold stare. The composition pulls your eye to the daggers first, then her face. Smart framing.

The Death Sworn line dropped three skins that patch: Katarina, Viktor, and Zed. Kinda feels like the line never got the love it deserved from Riot. Three skins and done. No follow-up sets, no event pass, nothing. Death Sworn Katarina ended up being the strongest of the trio visually, at least in my opinion. Viktor’s was decent but Katarina’s color palette just works better on the Rift.

No chromas for this one. Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it from the shop whenever. Hextech only these days unless Riot brings it back for a Harrowing rotation. I remember picking it up during the original release window back in 2017 and not touching another Katarina skin for months after.

Worth the 1350 RP?

Real verdict: Death Sworn Katarina is a strong Epic skin that suffers from one problem. Availability. Sits in the Legacy pool so you either already own it or you’re waiting on luck. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, cohesive theme. (Random aside: the loading screen art on this one is genuinely one of my favorites in the entire Katarina catalog.)

Competition is rough though. Katarina has a massive skin lineup. PROJECT and Battle Queen both offer more raw content. High Noon came later with a completely different vibe. But Death Sworn has this understated quality that the flashier skins dont match. The green-on-dark palette is easy on the eyes during long sessions. Played maybe 30 games with it last week during a Katarina binge in solo queue and the VFX never got old.

If you main Katarina and you get lucky enough to roll this from a chest, keep it. The Death Sworn line deserved more entries than it got. Skip rerolling this for orange essence. For Kat one-tricks specifically, this belongs in the rotation alongside her Legendaries. Not the flashiest option but one of the cleanest. S-tier Katarina cosmetic for anyone who values visual clarity over spectacle.
