First time I saw Blood Moon Thresh in loading screen I thought it was a Legendary. Not even joking. The splash alone carries so much weight that 975 RP felt like a steal, and honestly after maybe 80 games on it I still think thats the case. Thresh already has one of the best base designs in the game, but slapping a crimson oni mask on him and turning every hook into a ritual just hits different.

What Blood Moon actually changes on Thresh

So the model is the big one here. Thresh gets a full kabuki-inspired look with the mask, flowing red robes, and a lantern redesigned to match the Blood Moon aesthetic. The hook and lantern both got new VFX. Deep red particles on Q, the chain looks like it’s wrapped in some kind of spiritual energy. Honestly not gonna lie, the Q animation feels smoother to land with this skin. Placebo? Probably. But I’ve been running this in Diamond since season 5 and something about the wind-up just reads cleaner.

The recall is new too. Thresh does this ritualistic pose with the lantern, very fitting for the Blood Moon theme. No new voice lines though. Voice stays default. For a 975 RP skin released back in January 2015, that’s expected. You’re not getting a VO refresh at this price point.

W lantern keeps the red theme going. When you throw it out for a teammate the visual is crisp, easy to spot in teamfights. (Random aside: the number of ADCs who refuse to click lantern doesnt change regardless of which skin you use, sadly.) Flay particles got the treatment too. Red sweep on E, nothing crazy but it ties the kit together visually. Pre-6 laning with this skin just looks clean.

The Blood Moon line and where Thresh fits

Blood Moon is one of Riot’s longest running skinlines. Thresh joined the roster January 8, 2015, right around season 5 start. Esben Lash Rasmussen nailed the splash. The composition with the mask and the lantern glow against that blood-red moon backdrop is genuinely one of the better splash pieces for Thresh period.

Kinda feels like Thresh was designed for this skinline. The whole soul-collecting fantasy maps perfectly onto Blood Moon’s demon aesthetic. Compare it to Blood Moon Kalista or Blood Moon Elise released around the same era. Thresh arguably got the best treatment of that batch. The skinline kept expanding over the years with champions like Jhin and Pyke getting their own versions, but this early 2015 entry still holds up.

No chromas on this one. Clean single version. 975 RP, permanent shop availability. Standard tier pricing for a skin that punches above its weight class. Last Tuesday I was in a ranked game where both supports were running Blood Moon skins and the enemy Thresh had Dark Star. Blood Moon looked better in the side-by-side, not even close.

Should you pick up Blood Moon Thresh?

Real verdict: if you play Thresh at all, this is a must-own. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on abilities, a strong recall animation, and one of the best model redesigns at this price tier. Been maining Thresh with this skin on and off for years and I keep coming back to it over more expensive options.

The competition in Thresh’s skin catalog is rough. Dark Star exists. High Noon exists. Pulsefire if you got the prestige. But Blood Moon holds its lane against all of them. Could be wrong here but I think for pure visual clarity in soloqueue, the red particles on Q and E actually read better than Dark Star’s purple effects against most Rift backgrounds.

Skip it only if you already own three Thresh skins and your wallet is hurting. Otherwise this is the Thresh skin if you can only own one at the sub-1000 RP range. Best value in his entire lineup. Lock it in, spam hooks, collect souls. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion feels in your hands.
