First time I saw Blood Moon Pyke load in on the enemy team I genuinely thought it was a new champion for about two seconds. The silhouette reads completely different from base Pyke. That mask, the ceremonial robes flowing over his frame, the deep crimson palette. Locked it in myself the next game and havent looked back since. Something about the Blood Moon aesthetic just clicks with an assassin support kit.

What Blood Moon Pyke actually brings to the table

New VFX across the board. The Q hookshot trails blood-red energy that feels heavier than base, like you’re dragging something cursed through the air. Honestly not gonna lie, the charged Q specifically looks incredible when you pull someone from fog of war. The W camouflage shimmer shifts to this dark crimson outline that blends better into river fights around dragon pit than the teal base version. Subtle edge but I notice it.

E phantom is the highlight for me. The dash leaves behind this blood-soaked afterimage that pops against the Rift’s green. Played maybe 150 games with this skin through Diamond and the E stun visual reads so clean in teamfights. Your ADC can actually see where the stun zone is, which sounds basic but matters when you’re trying to peel or set up engages in bot lane.

R execute is where Riot cooked. The X marker shifts to Blood Moon’s ritual aesthetic and the slam down animation carries this ceremonial weight. Trapped their Jinx under tower last Tuesday with it and the kill felt twice as satisfying. Could be wrong here but I think the R indicator is slightly easier to track on this skin compared to base. New recall animation too, Pyke performs this ritual kneeling thing with his blade. Fits the theme perfectly.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for a 1350 RP Epic. Not a dealbreaker when the visual package is this strong.

The Blood Moon line and release context

Blood Moon Pyke dropped January 10, 2019. Early season 9 if I remember right. Viktor Titov and Grafit Studio handled the artwork, and they captured something special with the splash. Pyke crouching with that demon mask in moonlight, blade dripping. (Random aside: this splash was my Discord avatar for like six months straight.)

The Blood Moon skinline is one of Riot’s longest running thematic lines. Pyke fits it better than most champions in the roster. An assassin who literally executes people wearing a demon mask during a blood ritual? The thematic overlap writes itself. Been maining Pyke with this skin since season 9 and the fantasy still holds up years later.

6 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to, the dark colorway makes Pyke look like he crawled out of the shadow realm. Aquamarine shifts the palette to this icy blue that reads almost like a different skinline entirely. Pearl is clean if you want something lighter but I think it loses some of the Blood Moon identity. The rest are fine, Citrine runs a gold accent thats pretty sharp for ranked games.

Should you buy Blood Moon Pyke?

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, strong recall, splash that goes hard. Sits in the shop permanently so no rush. For Pyke mains this is a top pick. Maybe not THE best Pyke skin depending on your taste but its consistently in the conversation.

Real talk though, if you play Pyke in ranked at all this skin just feels good to use. The ability clarity is there, the theme is cohesive, the chromas give you options. Spammed this in Diamond for two seasons and never got tired of it. Compare it to some of his other options and Blood Moon Pyke holds its own. S-tier Pyke cosmetic for sure. Skip it only if you already have a Pyke skin you’re attached to, otherwise this is the one to grab for 1350 RP.
