Wonders of the World is one of those skinlines that most people dont even realize exists as a collection. Not gonna lie, I had to look it up myself after someone in my Discord pointed out that Muay Thai Lee Sin and Bear Cavalry Sejuani share the same thematic umbrella. The whole idea is real-world cultural references packed into champion skins. Think ancient civilizations, national archetypes, historical warriors. Some of these skins date back to 2010, back when Riot was still figuring out what a "skinline" even meant. The execution ranges from genuinely cool to hilariously dated, and I kind of love that about it.

What Ties Wonders of the World Together

The connecting thread here is cultural identity. Every skin in this line pulls from a real-world civilization, country, or cultural archetype. Winged Hussar Xin Zhao draws from Polish cavalry. Muay Thai Lee Sin is literally named after Thai boxing. Sultan Gangplank and Sultan Tryndamere reference Ottoman aesthetics. Statue of Karthus is the Statue of Liberty but, you know, undead.

Visually there's no unified color palette or shared VFX signature. Huge difference from something like Cosmic or Star Guardian where you can spot the line from across the Rift. Wonders of the World skins look completely different from each other. That's the point though. Each one is supposed to feel like its own cultural moment.

Could be wrong here but I think thats actually why the line flies under the radar. There's no splash art series that screams "collection." No matching particle effects. No recall animation theme. If you showed someone Panda Teemo and Viking Tryndamere side by side, they'd never guess these belong together. (Random aside: I spent three ranked sessions trying to figure out if Masked Shaco had any cultural reference I was missing. Still not sure.)

Compare this to something like Lunar Revel or Blood Moon where the Asian aesthetic ties everything tight. Wonders of the World is more of a loose anthology. A grab bag of cultural nods that Riot made between seasons 1 and 7. Some hit. Some feel like they were made on a Tuesday afternoon with zero concept art review.

The splash art quality varies wildly because these skins span seven years of Riot's art pipeline. Early entries like Shamrock Malphite look rough by modern standards. Later additions like Bear Cavalry Sejuani got the full treatment. Mixed bag for real.

Best Wonders of the World Skins

Bear Cavalry Sejuani is the crown jewel and it's not close. Only Epic tier skin in the entire line at 1350 RP. Released back in 2013 I think, season 3 era. Sejuani riding a massive armored bear instead of Bristle. The model work is solid for its age. Been spamming Sejuani in my ranked games last month and Bear Cavalry still holds up in teamfights. The charge animation on her Q feels heavier somehow. Might be placebo but I swear it does.

Muay Thai Lee Sin deserves the second spot even though it's technically a Standard skin. 975 RP. The fighting stance changes and new animations make it feel premium for the price point. Every Lee Sin one-trick I've played with in Diamond has this skin or God Fist. No in-between. Locked this in for maybe 40 games last season when I was grinding jungle and the auto-attack animations just feel cleaner. Real talk though, at 975 RP this should have been the blueprint for how budget skins can still feel good.

Winged Hussar Xin Zhao is underrated. Polish hussars had those iconic feathered wings on their backs and Riot actually captured that silhouette pretty well. Standard tier, 750 RP. Not much changes beyond the model but the fantasy is strong. If you main Xin Zhao and like history even a little bit, this one's a no-brainer.

Oktoberfest Gragas. Come on. The man is literally drinking beer and smashing barrels. This skin was made for Gragas. 975 RP, Standard tier. Cultural fit is perfect. Played against one of these in bot lane last Tuesday around midnight and my support was cracking up the entire laning phase. The recall where he chugs from the keg is peak character design for a 2012 skin.

Dynasty Ahri rounds out my top five. Not because the skin itself is incredible but because Ahri's base model was rough in 2012 and Dynasty gave her an actual visual identity. Korean-inspired outfit, clean fox aesthetic. 975 RP well spent for Ahri mains who want something traditional before going full KDA.

The Champion Roster

19 skins across 16 champions. Some champions got two entries. Tryndamere has Viking and Sultan which honestly makes sense for a barbarian character. Both cultural warrior archetypes. Anivia got Bird of Prey and Festival Queen, covering different ends of the spectrum. Pantheon has Myrmidon and Glaive Warrior, both pulling from ancient Greek military tradition.

Kinda feels like Riot just assigned these when a champion's base kit already had cultural overlap. Gangplank is a pirate so Ottoman sultan works. Malzahar's Vizier skin pulls from Middle Eastern court politics. Renekton's Outback skin is literally Australian. Some of these connections are stronger than others.

Not sure if it's just me but Shamrock Malphite feels like the weakest thematic fit. He's a rock. They painted him green and gave him a clover. That's Irish representation I guess? Been playing since season 4 and I've seen maybe two Shamrock Malphites in all my games. Most Malphite mains just run Mecha or Ironside these days.

Who should Riot add next? Honestly the line seems retired at this point. Last entry was 2017. But if they brought it back, Illaoi with a Polynesian warrior skin would be sick. Or Samira with a Spanish matador theme. The line has room for it but Riot clearly moved on to higher-concept skinlines that sell better. Fair enough.

(Sidebar for anyone who collects cultural reference skins specifically: the Wonders of the World line plus Lunar Revel plus Shan Hai Scrolls covers a lot of ground. Worth looking at all three if that's your thing.)

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

Here's where it gets real. 18 out of 19 skins are Standard tier. One Epic. Zero Legendaries. Zero Mythics. Zero Ultimates. This is an old-school budget skinline through and through.

Price range runs from 520 RP at the low end up to 1350 RP for Bear Cavalry Sejuani. Most of these sit at 750 or 975 RP. That means minimal changes. Model swaps, maybe new textures, occasionally tweaked animations. No new voice lines anywhere. No new VFX on abilities. Base VO across the board.

Does that make them bad? Not necessarily. Muay Thai Lee Sin at 975 proves you can make a memorable skin without particle effects. But skins like Outback Renekton at 520 RP are genuinely just recolors with a hat. You get what you pay for.

The Standard tier dominance means this skinline won't compete with modern Epic-heavy lines for attention. Climbing through Diamond last season I saw maybe one Wonders of the World skin every 15 games. Bear Cavalry Sejuani and Muay Thai Lee Sin carry the entire line's reputation. The rest are collector pieces or nostalgia picks from players who bought them in season 2 and never switched. Nothing wrong with that honestly.

If you're looking for value, the 750 RP skins like Winged Hussar Xin Zhao and Viking Tryndamere deliver solid thematic fantasy for pocket change. Skip the 520 RP entries unless you're going for a complete collection. Those are leftovers from an era where "skin" meant "different colored shirt."

Maybe just my experience but the line peaks at the 975 RP price point. Muay Thai Lee Sin, Oktoberfest Gragas, Dynasty Ahri, Panda Teemo. All 975 RP or close. All feel like they got genuine creative attention. That sweet spot between "too cheap to care" and "expensive enough to justify new particles" is where Wonders of the World actually delivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Wonders of the World skins are there?

19 skins total in the Wonders of the World line. Spread across 16 different champions with Tryndamere, Anivia, and Pantheon each getting two entries. The line ran from 2010 to 2017 so its been quiet for a while now. Could be wrong but I think Riot considers it done at this point.

What is the best Wonders of the World skin?

Bear Cavalry Sejuani by a mile. Only Epic in the line, 1350 RP, and the armored bear mount is iconic. Muay Thai Lee Sin takes second place though. At 975 RP the animation work punches way above its weight class. Been running both in ranked and they still hold up against modern skins somehow.

Which champions have Wonders of the World skins?

16 champions total. Big names include Lee Sin, Ahri, Gangplank, Sejuani, Gragas, Teemo, and Xin Zhao. Some picks feel natural like Pantheon getting Greek warrior skins. Others feel random. Shamrock Malphite is literally just a green rock with a clover. Not gonna lie that one's a stretch.

Does Wonders of the World have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries at all. The line maxes out at one Epic skin which is Bear Cavalry Sejuani at 1350 RP. Everything else is Standard tier ranging from 520 to 975 RP. This was an old-school budget line from early League so no new voice lines or major VFX on any of them.

When did the Wonders of the World skinline release?

First skins dropped around 2010, early League days. Riot kept adding to it through 2017 with Festival Queen Anivia and Bear Cavalry Sejuani being later entries. Thats a seven-year span which is pretty wild. Most modern skinlines get one or two batches then Riot moves on.

Are Wonders of the World skins worth buying?

Depends on the specific skin. Muay Thai Lee Sin and Oktoberfest Gragas are legit good purchases at 975 RP. Bear Cavalry Sejuani earns its 1350. But the 520 RP entries like Outback Renekton are basically glorified recolors. Stick to the 975 RP tier skins if you want real value. Skip the bottom shelf stuff.

Do Wonders of the World skins have chromas?

Most of them don't. These skins predate the chroma era for the most part. A few of the more popular ones like Muay Thai Lee Sin picked up chromas later but the majority are single-variant skins. Kinda expected for Standard tier stuff from 2010 to 2015. You get the base version and that's it.

Will Riot make more Wonders of the World skins?

Probably not. Last addition was 2017 and Riot hasnt touched the line since. Modern skin development focuses on high-concept fantasy lines like Arcana or Faerie Court that sell at 1350 RP minimum. Cultural reference skins at 750 RP just dont move the needle anymore. Cool concept but I think its retired for good.
