Mythmaker Garen

Locked in Mythmaker Garen the first day it dropped in January 2023 and honestly wasnt sure what to expect. Garen already has a stacked wardrobe. God-King exists. Mecha Kingdoms exists. So another Epic tier skin had to bring something real or it would just collect dust. Played maybe 30 games with it that first week in Diamond and the VFX sold me before anything else did.

What Mythmaker Garen actually looks like in game

The Mythmaker line pulls from Lunar New Year mythology and Garen fits the aesthetic surprisingly well. Red and gold armor, intricate dragon motifs running through the model, ceremonial blade that looks like it belongs in a temple. Not gonna lie, the splash caught me off guard. Silvia Meiliani and Caravan Studio handled the artwork and they captured something regal without making it look overdone.

VFX are where this skin earns the 1350 RP. His Q lights up with golden fire trails when you charge through lane. E spin gets these red energy rings that pulse outward, clean visual feedback during teamfights when you’re spinning on the backline. The W shield pops with a gold barrier effect. Real talk though, the R is the highlight. Demacia sword comes down wreathed in red and gold dragons. Looks massive. Been running this in ranked and every time I ult a low-health ADC it just feels more satisfying than base.

Recall animation is new too. Garen does this martial arts sword form, plants the blade, and these dragon spirits circle him. Short and clean. No new voice lines, kept the base VO, which is fine. Jamieson Price already sounds commanding enough on default Garen.

Mythmaker skinline and the details

Mythmaker dropped January 12, 2023. Late into season 13 start. The Mythmaker line that year included Irelia and a few others, and I think Garen was the sleeper pick of the batch. Irelia got more attention (she always does) but Garen’s execution felt tighter for what it is.

10 chromas total. Thats a lot of options. Gilded is my go-to, the black and gold combination reads clean against the Rift and gives the whole skin a more serious tone. Sapphire hits different if you want something colder, the blue replaces the red without losing the dragon theme. Pearl exists for the minimalist crowd but I keep coming back to Gilded.

(Random aside: my duo partner who one-tricks Garen has every single chroma and rotates them based on his mood. Diamond players are a different breed.)

Legacy vault skin now, so you cant just grab it whenever. Hextech only these days unless Riot brings it back for Lunar New Year events. Kinda feels like they rotate these Mythmaker skins back around January or February each year but could be wrong here.

Is Mythmaker Garen worth 1350 RP?

Straight talk: this is a solid mid-to-upper tier Garen skin. Not touching God-King obviously, thats Legendary territory with full VO and transformations. But for an Epic at 1350 RP, Mythmaker delivers. The VFX carry the skin hard. Been maining Garen with this in solo queue when I need a reliable top lane pick and the skin never gets old.

If you already own God-King or Mecha Kingdoms you probably dont need this unless you want variety. But if you’re a Garen main looking for something that isnt over the top, Mythmaker hits a sweet spot. Clean model, strong VFX, good chromas. Worth 1350 if you main Garen. The catch is finding it since its in the Legacy pool, might need to wait for an event shop or get lucky with a chest drop. Seen maybe two of these in my games all season, which honestly makes it feel more special when you do lock it in. Last Tuesday I ran into another Mythmaker Garen in the enemy top lane and we both emoted at each other pre-6. Respect.
