Ruined Karma

First game I played with Ruined Karma was sometime around 2 AM on a Wednesday, right after patch 11.2 dropped. Locked her in for a support game and the loading screen splash alone had me sold. There’s something about seeing Karma corrupted by the Black Mist that just works. The calm, composed enlightened one turned into something genuinely unsettling. Not gonna lie, I wasnt expecting to like this one as much as I did.

What the Ruined theme does to Karma’s kit

The model swap is clean. Karma’s outfit shifts from her usual Ionian robes to this torn, mist-corrupted look with teal and dark purple energy running through everything. Her mantle fans out with jagged edges, and the Black Mist particles cling to her like she’s been marinating in the Shadow Isles for a few centuries.

VFX got a full rework for this tier. Her Q fires out with that sickly teal Ruined energy, and Mantra Q specifically looks nasty on impact. The detonation zone reads well in teamfights, which matters when you’re trying to poke from the backline. W tether has this ghostly chain visual that I think looks better than most of her other skins. E shield pops with corrupted mist particles wrapping around your ADC.

Recall animation is where Riot put in extra effort. Karma tries to meditate, the mist overtakes her, she fights it briefly then succumbs. Short but effective. Tells the whole Ruined story in a few seconds. Been spamming this in Diamond support games and the recall gets comments from duo partners pretty regularly.

(Random sidebar: the way her fans flutter during idle animation is weirdly hypnotic, caught myself just standing in base watching it during a late-game death timer.)

The Ruined line and where Karma fits

Ruined Karma dropped January 21, 2021, right in the buildup to the whole Sentinels of Light event later that year. Marie Magny and West Studio handled the splash, and they captured this moment of Karma mid-corruption that hits hard. The Ruined skinline was Riot’s way of showing what happens when Viego’s influence spreads across Runeterra, and Karma being one of Ionia’s spiritual leaders made her a natural target.

Kinda feels like the Ruined line peaked with a few specific champions and Karma is one of them. The thematic contrast between her usual serene energy and the violent corruption of the mist creates something visually striking that skins like Ruined Draven or Ruined Shyvana dont quite match.

8 chromas total for Ruined Karma. Tanzanite is my go-to because the deep purple amplifies the dark magic vibe without losing the Ruined identity. Cursed is the event-exclusive one with black and gold that reads like a prestige version of the skin. Pearl exists but honestly it washes out the corruption theme, which defeats the purpose for me. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the voice filter isn’t needed here since the visuals carry the fantasy on their own.

Is Ruined Karma worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin for Karma mains who want something darker in their rotation. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, a model that actually tells a story. Could be wrong here but I think this sits comfortably in the top three Karma skins alongside Dawnbringer and Odyssey.

Where it falls short is the audio side. No new voice lines means you’re still hearing enlightened Karma quotes while looking like a corrupted mist wraith. Minor disconnect. Not a dealbreaker but it keeps this from being a must-buy for everyone. For Karma one-tricks though, especially if you play her support and want something that looks intimidating in lane, this skin delivers.

Shop has it, permanent availability. If you’re climbing with Karma this season and want your Q poke to look like it belongs in the Shadow Isles, Ruined Karma earns its price. Played maybe 200 games with this across season 11 and 12, and it still holds up. The Ruined line had some misses but Karma was not one of them. Worth 1350 if you main Karma, easy call. Skip it if you already own Dawnbringer and only play her occasionally, but for dedicated Karma players this is a top pick.
