Annie in Wonderland dropped on August 16, 2010, making it one of the oldest Legendary skins in League history. Honestly its one of those skins that actually aged well – the Alice in Wonderland concept is almost too perfect for Annie. Small girl, giant fire bear, tea-party chaos on the Rift. Been picking this up in Hextech chests and running it through maybe 40 ranked games over the past few weeks, and I have some thoughts.
What Annie in Wonderland actually changes
The model is the big sell here. Annie gets the classic blue Alice dress with the white pinafore, and the whole aesthetic screams Storybook skinline before Riot even formalized that term. Tibbers is the real showstopper though – he shows up as a massive stuffed bear with curled Cheshire Cat features, complete with a painted-on grin and oversized proportions. First time I ult’d in lane and the enemy Katarina just typed “what is that” in all chat. Good reaction.
VFX are confirmed new for this skin. Fire particles take on a warmer, golden tint across all abilities. The Q – Disintegrate – fires as a pinkish-orange fireball that reads differently from base Annie at a glance, which is actually useful in high-elo where enemies know exactly what base particles look like. W Incinerate looks like a fan of curved sparks, slightly softer than the raw flame cone on base. Not dramatic but noticeable once you’ve seen both side by side. E – Molten Shield – wraps Annie in a pale shimmer that fits the fairytale palette without being distracting. Clean execution for what’s basically a utility spell nobody in the backline is watching anyway.
The R is where Annie in Wonderland really delivers. Summon: Tibbers materializes with a bounce and that painted grin stays visible while he’s running down their carry or sitting in a teamfight. Played a game last Sunday where Tibbers solo’d two people in the jungle and a teammate just typed “the bear” in chat. Nothing else. Fair. The storybook look on a rampaging fire bear is genuinely funny in the best way, and it tracks perfectly with Annie’s whole character.
No new voice lines – Cristina Milizia’s base VO carries over unchanged. Voice pack is base only. For a 2010 Legendary thats expected, but newer Legendaries ship with full VO overhauls so it’s worth flagging if you’re comparing value against more recent releases.
Release context and the Storybook line
Annie in Wonderland released August 16, 2010 during Season 1. The Storybook skinline wasn’t a formalized thing back then – just a loose aesthetic Riot kept returning to. Red Riding Annie came later in the same orbit, and Riot eventually grouped them retroactively into what we now call Storybook.
The Storybook skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent themes. Annie fits it naturally – she’s basically a fairytale character by design: fire magic, bears, tragic backstory, no friends. Annie in Wonderland leans into that harder than most entries in the line, and it works.
No splash artist credited from available data. The splash is older-style artwork – that pre-rework era where League splashes had a flatter, more illustrated feel compared to the hyper-rendered look Riot does now. (Random aside: I genuinely think early-era League splashes have a charm the polished modern ones lost, and this is a solid example.) Availability is Legacy vault, so you’re rolling Hextech chests or waiting on a Legacy sale event to grab it.
Is Annie in Wonderland worth 1820 RP?
Real verdict: this Legendary earns it for Annie mains but probably not for casual players. The model and Tibbers VFX are legitimately good even 15-plus years post-release. 1820 RP is standard Legendary pricing, and for what Riot delivered in 2010, the skin held up better than most of that era.
The catch is availability. Sits in the Legacy vault now, so you need Hextech luck or a Legacy sale window. Not gonna lie, I rolled it from a chest reroll sometime around season 12 and ran it as my main Annie skin for three months before shelving Annie entirely and grinding Syndra for the rest of that split. Worth it from loot? Absolutely. Worth buying at full 1820 RP if it ever rotates back to the shop? Probably yes if Annie is a champion you’re spamming in ranked.
Skip it if you’re a casual Annie player just picking her for easy stomps. The upgraded VFX help with gameplay legibility – the Q and R particles are distinctly different from base during teamfights – but Goth Annie at 520 RP gets the job done for occasional play. Annie in Wonderland is the pick for one-tricks, collectors, and anyone deep into the Storybook aesthetic who wants the full set.
S-tier Annie cosmetic for mains. Maybe just my experience but every Annie one-trick I know has this one in rotation somewhere. The Tibbers model alone is worth locking it in.
