First time I saw Worlds 2013 Thresh load in was during a late-night ranked session, maybe 1 AM, season 3 still fresh. The blue and gold hit different from base Thresh. Not gonna lie, it felt like Riot actually cared about commemorating Worlds back then. Simple skin. Clean execution. The kind of thing you lock in when you want your support pick to look like it belongs on stage.
What the skin actually changes
This is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP so temper expectations. You get a full model swap with the World Championship blue and gold color scheme across Thresh’s armor, lantern, and chains. The hook on his Q reads a bit different visually with the new VFX. Subtle blue trails instead of the green base particles. Same deal with the lantern toss on W, theres a gold shimmer that base Thresh doesnt have.
The recall animation is custom too. Thresh does this whole championship trophy interaction that ties directly into the World Championship skinline. Cool touch for 975 RP honestly. Most skins at this price in 2013 didn’t bother with recall animations.
Voice lines stay base. Mark Oliver’s original VO. No filter, no new lines. For a skin from October 2013 thats expected. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack particles also carry a slight blue tint. Hard to tell in teamfights when you’re busy peeling for your ADC and trying to land hooks on the backline.
The World Championship line and release context
Released October 3, 2013. Right around the Season 3 World Championship. Bo Lu handled the artwork and captured that esports energy in the splash. Thresh standing with the Summoner’s Cup integrated into the design. The whole World Championship skinline was Riot’s way of marking each Worlds with a commemorative skin, and Thresh got the nod for 2013.
Legacy vault skin. You can’t just walk into the shop and grab it. Hextech crafting or waiting for Riot to crack open the vault during special events. Seen maybe two of these in my Diamond games all season. Rare enough that people actually notice it in champ select.
One Golden chroma exists. Just the one. It pushes the gold tones way harder across the entire model. Kinda feels like the prestige version before prestige editions were a thing. The gold reads well against the Rift, especially in river fights around dragon pit.
Is 975 RP worth it for Worlds 2013 Thresh
Real verdict: if you main Thresh and you care about esports history, this skin carries weight. 975 RP is fair for what you get. New model, VFX on abilities, custom recall. That’s a solid package for the price point. Compare it to other Thresh skins like Dark Star or High Noon and obviously those Legendaries blow it away on features. But Worlds 2013 Thresh isn’t trying to compete there.
Been running this in ranked whenever I get support and honestly the Q VFX might actually be slightly harder for enemies to read. Probably placebo. (Random aside: I keep this splash saved somewhere on my old laptop from when I thought I’d go pro in season 4.) The skin works best if you appreciate what it represents. Season 3 Worlds, the early days of competitive League, Thresh being pick or ban in pro play. Skip it if you just want flashy particles. Lock it in if you’re a Thresh one-trick who respects the history. The Golden chroma bumps it up a notch if you can snag it during an event.
