Been running Woad Ashe on and off since maybe season 3 or 4, dont remember exactly. First time I saw the splash I thought it looked like something out of a Braveheart fan edit and honestly that sold me. There’s something about the blue war paint and the raw tribal aesthetic that just fits Ashe better than half her newer skins. Locked this in for a solid stretch of ranked last season around November, and it still holds up for a skin from 2010.
What Woad Ashe actually changes
So this is a Standard tier skin at 520 RP, and for that price you’re getting a full model swap with some subtle VFX tweaks. Ashe trades her usual Freljord queen look for Celtic warrior energy. Blue woad paint across her face and body, leather armor, fur trim. The bow gets a redesign too, feels more primal. Less royalty, more frontline.
The VFX adjustments are minor but noticeable. Her W volley reads slightly different with the color shift, and her ult arrow carries the cooler tone. Not gonna lie, in teamfights late-game you probably wont notice unless you’re paying attention. But in lane phase when its just you and the enemy ADC trading cs, the little details pop. Played maybe 80 games with this skin last month and the auto attack animations feel clean. Could be placebo but the autos seem snappier than base.
Voice lines stay base. No new VO, no recall animation changes. Standard 520 RP package. You know what surprised me? The model still looks decent on the Rift even after all the visual updates the game has gotten. Some old skins age terribly but Woad Ashe holds its ground.
The Woad line and where this skin sits
Released July 18, 2010. That’s ancient by League standards. Season 1 era. Concept Art House handled the splash, and for the time period it was solid work. The Woad skinline is one of Riot’s smaller thematic sets, pulling from Celtic and Pictish warrior culture. Ashe fits it naturally because her base fantasy already leans into the ice warrior archetype. Adding war paint and tribal gear is a lateral move that works.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Kinda wish Riot would revisit it with a chroma pack because I think an Obsidian or deep green variant would look incredible. But for now its the base Woad palette only. (Random aside: I use this splash as my Discord avatar in one of my clash teams and people always ask what skin it is.)
Shop has it permanently. 520 RP, available any time you want it. For context thats cheaper than a large coffee in most cities. The Woad line also includes Woad Scout Quinn and a couple others, but Ashe’s version I think is the strongest execution of the theme. Maybe just my experience but the tribal warrior fantasy reads better on an ADC with a bow than on most other champions.
Should you buy Woad Ashe?
Straight talk: at 520 RP this is hard to argue against if you play Ashe at all. It’s not competing with PROJECT Ashe or Cosmic Queen for flashiness. Different lane entirely. This is the skin you run when you want something understated that still looks distinct. Been maining Ashe with this in Diamond and nobody flames your skin choice, nobody comments on it. Clean pick.
Real talk though, if you only own one Ashe skin and you want maximum value, the higher tier options give you more. But as a second or third skin in rotation? Woad Ashe earns its spot. I keep coming back to it after trying the newer releases because the simplicity is refreshing. 520 RP well spent for mains. Not the best Ashe skin full stop, but a reliable one that’s survived 16 years of League and still looks good on the Rift. That counts for something.
