SSG Xayah

Not gonna lie, when Riot dropped the Samsung Galaxy World Champions skins in 2018 I wasnt expecting Xayah to get one of the cleaner entries in the set. But here we are. SSG Xayah came out of nowhere for me. Locked it in the first week and played maybe 40 games straight in Diamond that patch. The blue and white color scheme just reads so clean on the Rift, especially in bot lane where everything tends to blur together during teamfights.

What SSG Xayah actually changes

So the model swap goes full Samsung Galaxy branding. White jacket, blue accents, the SSG logo worked into the outfit. Xayah’s feathers shift from that warm red-purple to a crisp icy blue. Huge difference. The feathers on Q pop way harder against the green of Summoner’s Rift, which I think actually helps with gameplay clarity when you’re tracking your feather placement for E roots.

VFX got reworked and they did a solid job. W procs leave these blue trails that feel satisfying to watch when you’re kiting in a comp with good peel. The recall animation is the highlight though: Xayah pulls out the Summoner’s Cup trophy. Clean touch. Been running this skin in ranked since season 8 and the recall still makes me smile a little. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play Rakan without his SSG skin whenever I lock this in.)

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. Kinda feels like Riot could have added at least a voice filter for the World Champions line, but they kept it simple. The base Xayah voice works fine here anyway. Her attitude carries regardless of the outfit.

The World Champions 2017 line and release context

SSG Xayah dropped July 20, 2018. Part of the World Champions: 2017 set celebrating Samsung Galaxy’s Worlds win. Rudy Siswanto and Pan Chengwei handled the splash art, and they captured the energy perfectly. That splash with Xayah mid-feather throw against the blue backdrop is one of the better Worlds skin splashes across all the years.

The World Champions 2017 skinline included picks from the roster that took the cup. SSG Xayah stands out because Xayah was still relatively new as a champion at that point, only about a year old. Seeing her get a Worlds skin that early felt right given how dominant she was in pro play that season. Could be wrong here but I think this was Ruler’s pick specifically.

One chroma available: the Elite version. Purple and light blue tones instead of the standard white and blue. Honestly the Elite chroma hits different, gives it a slightly more regal vibe that matches Xayah’s personality better than the base SSG colors. Worth grabbing if you can find it.

Should you pick up SSG Xayah?

Legacy vault skin. Thats the catch. You cant just walk into the shop and buy it any random Tuesday at 2 AM. Gotta wait for Legacy sales or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Which is a shame because for 1350 RP this is genuinely one of the more underrated Xayah skins.

Real talk though: if you main Xayah and you already have Star Guardian or Brave Phoenix, SSG Xayah fills a different niche. It’s the clean, understated option. No flashy magical girl transformation, no cosmic feathers. Just a solid esports skin with good VFX and a trophy recall. I keep coming back to this one after cycling through her other skins for a few weeks. Something about the blue feathers on E when you root someone in a gank just hits right.

For ADC mains climbing through ranked, the feather visibility is a real gameplay consideration. Pre-6 trades where you’re stacking feathers behind the enemy support feel easier to track with SSG Xayah’s blue palette versus the default. Might be overthinking it but I’ve had games where the color contrast genuinely helped me land cleaner recalls on my E. Skip it if you’re not a Xayah player, but for one-tricks this belongs in the rotation. Fair price for the package, assuming you catch it outside the vault.
