First game I played with Soul Fighter Gwen was around 3 AM on release night, queued into a Diamond ranked match against a Darius top. Locked it in blind. The loading screen splash hit different from what I expected – less cute seamstress energy, more actual fighter. Fortune ‘Fortuneee’ K nailed the splash, gave Gwen this confident stance thats hard to pull off for a champion holding giant scissors. Immediately knew I’d be running this for a while.

How Soul Fighter Gwen actually plays

The VFX overhaul carries this skin. Hard. Gwen’s Q snips come through with this golden-white energy trail that reads so much cleaner than base in teamfights. When you’re trying to proc your passive in a messy 5v5 around dragon pit, the visual clarity matters more than people think. Could be wrong here but I feel like I track my Q center sweetspot better with this skin than default.

W is where it gets interesting. The Hallowed Mist shifts to this arena-style barrier that fits the Soul Fighter theme perfectly. Feels like you’re stepping into a fighting game ring. Been maining Gwen with this since it dropped and the W bubble just communicates “stay out” way more aggressively than her base skin.

E dash has subtle golden particles. Nothing crazy but clean. R needles get the full treatment though – each ult cast sends out these bright energy projectiles that look distinct from every other Gwen skin. In lane specifically, landing all three R casts on a squishy backline target with these VFX is satisfying. The recall animation ties everything together with a fighting tournament vibe. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic tier skin.

The Soul Fighter lineup and where Gwen fits

Soul Fighter released August 3, 2023. The whole skinline dropped as Riot’s summer event that year – part of a fighting game crossover concept. Gwen slots in naturally because her kit already has that close-range brawler feel. Snip snip. The Soul Fighter set includes Jhin, Lux, Pyke, Sett, and others. Not gonna lie, Gwen might be the most underrated one in the batch. Everyone talked about Soul Fighter Sett and Samira but Gwen’s version is cleaner in-game than half of them.

9 chromas total if you want variety. Amethyst swaps to a deep purple palette that honestly looks more expensive than the base skin. Limitless has this silver-to-purple gradient thing going on that reads well on the Rift. Ruby is fine, standard red recolor, nothing I’d go out of my way for. (Random aside: I set the Amethyst chroma as my default and forgot what the original looked like for like two weeks.)

Shop has it, permanent availability. 1350 RP, standard Epic pricing.

Should you pick up Soul Fighter Gwen?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin that earns its 1350 RP. Not the flashiest thing Riot has ever made but everything it does, it does well. The VFX are distinct without being noisy, the theme works for Gwen’s champion fantasy, and the chromas give you options if the base gold palette isnt your thing.

Might be overthinking it but I think Soul Fighter edges out Space Groove for best overall Gwen skin in the Epic tier. Space Groove has more personality in the theme, sure. But Soul Fighter’s in-game readability is better, especially when you’re splitpushing a side lane and need to track your abilities in a 1v2. Played maybe 80 games with this across season 13 and 14 and keep coming back to it over Cafe Cuties too.

If you one-trick Gwen or even just have her in your top lane rotation for certain comps, this skin is worth the RP. Skip it if you already own Battle Queen since that one covers similar ground at a higher tier. But for mains looking at the 1350 bracket specifically, Soul Fighter Gwen is the pick. Fair price for the package, and the Amethyst chroma is basically a bonus skin on top.
