First time I saw Riot K-9 Nasus loading in was season 3 maybe, and I remember thinking the concept was so stupid it looped back around to being great. A police dog. Nasus is literally a dog god and Riot just leaned all the way into it. Banger concept honestly.
The K-9 unit look on the Rift
So what you get here is Nasus in full police gear. Dark uniform, badge, the whole cop dog fantasy. His staff becomes a baton which honestly changes the feel of stacking Q more than you’d expect. Something about bonking a cannon minion with a police baton at 400 stacks hits different than the default cane.
No new VFX on this one. Voice stays default. No recall animation either, this is a 2011 skin so temper expectations. The model swap is doing all the heavy lifting and for a Standard tier skin thats kind of the deal. You get the costume, the weapon change, and the splash. Done.
Kinda feels like the skin reads better in-game than you’d think from the splash though. The dark blue uniform contrasts well against the Rift, especially when you’re splitpushing top and the enemy laner has to watch this cop dog slowly walk at them with 600 stacks. Been running this in Diamond a few times last month just for the mental warfare angle. Not gonna lie, the enemy Darius seemed tilted from champ select.
Where Riot K-9 Nasus came from
Released August 16, 2011. Ancient by League standards. Kienan ‘Knockwurst’ Lafferty handled the artwork, and the splash holds up okay for its age. Not their best work but you can see the vision.
Part of the Riot skinline, same family as Riot Graves, Riot Blitzcrank, and the others. The Riot skins were always about putting champions in Riot Games branded gear or emergency services uniforms. Nasus got the K-9 unit treatment because, well, obvious reasons. The Riot line doesnt get new entries much anymore so these feel like collector pieces at this point.
Legacy vault skin. You cant just walk into the shop and grab it. Gotta wait for a vault opening event or get lucky with Hextech crafting. (Random aside: I have like four legacy skins I got from rerolling skin shards at 3 AM and this was one of them.) Could be wrong here but I think the last time these rotated back was around some Riot anniversary event, season 12 I think or maybe 11.
Should you care about Riot K-9 Nasus?
Real verdict: this skin lives on novelty. If you’re a Nasus main climbing through ranked and you want the best possible skin for him, Infernal or Armored Titan are better picks with actual VFX work. Riot K-9 Nasus is a flex. It’s the “I’ve been playing this champion since before your account existed” skin.
975 RP price tag is fair for what it is. Standard tier, model-only changes, no frills. The problem is you cant even buy it when you want to since it sits in the Legacy pool. That scarcity actually works in its favor for the collection angle.
For Nasus one-tricks specifically, you probably want this in your rotation just for variety. Spamming the same skin for 200 games gets old and sometimes you just want to lane as a police dog stacking Q on casters. Simple change – huge impact on how the grind feels. Not the best Nasus skin but one of the most fun to lock in, especially in norms with friends around 11 PM on a weekday when nobody cares about comp or lane prio. Skip it if you’re only buying one Nasus skin. Keep it if you roll it from a chest.
