First time I saw Prestige Inkshadow Yasuo load in during a ranked game, I thought someone modded their client. The gold ink aesthetic on Yasuo is so different from his usual edgy windwall fantasy that it caught me off guard. Been playing Yasuo on and off since season 5, and this one stopped me mid-scroll in the collection tab around 2 AM on a Tuesday. Not gonna lie, the prestige treatment here hits harder than most prestige skins Riot has put out.
The ink and gold VFX on Yasuo
So the base Inkshadow Yasuo already does a lot with the calligraphy brush theme. Prestige takes that and dips the whole thing in liquid gold. The Q stab and tornado both trail these golden ink splatters that feel weighty on screen. Thick strokes. You can actually track your tornado path through a teamfight because the gold particles contrast hard against the Rift.
W windwall gets this shimmering gold barrier effect. Kinda feels like youre blocking projectiles with a sheet of beaten metal instead of wind. The E dash leaves golden calligraphy marks on the ground briefly, which is a nice touch when you’re dashing through a minion wave to set up your engage. Could be wrong here but I think the trail duration is slightly longer than base Inkshadow.
R is where the real payoff sits. Last Breath suspends the target in this golden ink explosion, brush strokes radiating outward. Played maybe 40 games with this skin the week it dropped and the ult VFX never got old. The recall animation keeps the ink brush theme with Yasuo doing this calligraphy flourish before getting pulled back to base. Clean execution. No new voice lines though, voice stays default, which is standard for a Mythic skin. Liam O’Brien’s base VO still works fine with the aesthetic honestly.
Earning the prestige version and the Inkshadow line
Prestige Inkshadow Yasuo released May 3, 2023. Right in the middle of the Inkshadow event that patch. The Inkshadow skinline pulls from East Asian ink wash painting, and Yasuo fits the theme like he was designed for it. Samurai wanderer meets calligraphy master. The whole Inkshadow lineup that year included Kai’Sa, Udyr, Volibear, and a few others. Yasuo got both the standard and prestige versions.
Ina Wong and West Studio handled the splash art. They captured this moment of Yasuo mid-strike with golden ink flowing off his blade, and the composition draws your eye straight to the sword. Strong piece. (Random aside: this splash rotated as my desktop background for like three months straight.)
As a Mythic tier skin, you couldnt just buy Prestige Inkshadow Yasuo with RP. Special pricing, event token grind or Mythic Essence depending on when you grabbed it. No chromas available for the prestige version, which makes sense since the whole point is the gold recolor. The skin is available through the Mythic shop rotation now.
How it compares in the Yasuo collection
Yasuo has an absurd number of skins at this point. Nightbringer, Spirit Blossom, Truth Dragon, the Dream Dragon variant. Been maining Yasuo with Spirit Blossom for the longest time because the VFX readability on that one is top tier. But Prestige Inkshadow carved out its own lane.
The gold palette separates it from everything else in the roster. Most Yasuo skins lean into dark blues, reds, or cosmic purples. This one goes warm metallic gold against black ink. In my Diamond games last season I think I saw maybe 5 or 6 other people running this skin total. Its not common. That exclusivity factor matters when you have a champion with 15+ skins and everyone defaults to Nightbringer or Spirit Blossom.
Real talk though, the base Inkshadow version at 1350 RP gives you most of the same thematic identity. The prestige is the gold luxury upgrade. If you already own regular Inkshadow Yasuo and dont have Mythic Essence burning a hole in your inventory, the standard version does the job. The prestige is for completionists and Yasuo one-tricks who want the flex.
Should you spend Mythic Essence on this?
Verdict time. Prestige Inkshadow Yasuo is one of the better prestige skins Riot has released. The gold ink VFX are distinct enough from the base version to justify the grind. Spammed this in Diamond during season 13 and the visual clarity on Q tornado and R is genuinely good, not just pretty but functional for tracking your abilities in chaotic fights.
Best Yasuo prestige option if you’re comparing it to Prestige True Damage. True Damage prestige always felt like a gold filter slapped on without much thought. This one integrates the gold into the ink brush theme naturally. Top pick for Yasuo mains who want something rare in the rotation. If you main Yasuo and the Mythic shop has it available, lock it in. Might be overthinking it but I think this skin actually improved my lane prio in some games just from the confidence boost of the VFX. Placebo or not, the skin feels good to play. That counts for something when you’re grinding ranked at 1 AM and need that extra push to queue one more.
