Prestige Battle Academia Lux (2022)

Been maining Lux on and off since season 7, and when Riot dropped the 2022 re-release of Prestige Battle Academia Lux I had mixed feelings. Not gonna lie, the original 2019 prestige felt earned. You ground out tokens, you got your golden Lux, you flexed it in lane. This 2022 version showing up in the Mythic Essence shop felt like Riot handing out participation trophies. But I locked it in anyway because, well, it’s Lux. And I wanted to see if it still held up against the flood of skins she’s gotten since.

The gold treatment and what it changes

Prestige Battle Academia Lux keeps the same Battle Academia framework but wraps everything in white and gold. The uniform shifts from the original red-and-black scheme to something cleaner. Almost regal. The VFX got a prestige pass too, so her Q binding trails golden particles, and her E zone lights up with that warm shimmer instead of the standard palette. Solid change.

Her ult is where you notice it most. That massive laser beam goes full gold, and in a teamfight it reads differently than base Battle Academia. Kinda feels like the visual clarity actually improves with the prestige coloring, at least in my Diamond games around 1 AM when everything starts blurring together. The W shield also picks up the golden tint, which is subtle but noticeable when you’re peeling for your ADC.

Recall animation stays the prestige version. Lux does her little graduation ceremony pose with the golden effects swirling around. Voice lines stay base, no new VO on this one. Standard for a Mythic tier skin, they dont usually spring for new voice work at this level. The splash itself is gorgeous though. Clean composition, confident pose.

Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack particles feel slightly different from the original prestige. Might just be the color shift messing with my perception. Either way, the autos land with a satisfying golden flare that makes csing in lane weirdly pleasant. Small thing. Big impact.

Battle Academia, the 2022 re-release, and context

Prestige Battle Academia Lux originally dropped in 2019 during the Battle Academia event. The 2022 version released April 1, 2022, part of Riot’s initiative to bring back older prestige skins through the Mythic Essence system. Rudy Siswanto nailed the splash, the lighting on the gold accents catches your eye immediately.

The Battle Academia skinline is one of Riot’s anime-inspired lines. Think magical school setting, uniforms, the whole shonen package. Lux fits it naturally since she’s already the “light mage student” archetype. The prestige variant just cranks that up with the white-gold color scheme that screams valedictorian energy.

This is a Mythic tier skin with special pricing, meaning you cant just buy it with RP. It cycled through the Mythic Essence shop and now sits in the vault. Vault rotation skin, so you’re waiting for Riot to bring it back or getting lucky with rerolls. No chromas on this one, which makes sense for a prestige. (Random aside: I have three Lux prestige skins and at this point my wallet physically hurts when a new one gets announced.)

Season 12 was wild for Lux collectors. Between this re-release and other skins dropping that year, Lux mains were eating. Maybe too well. I remember that ranked game on a Tuesday night where my support locked in Lux with this skin and the enemy Katarina typed “nice skin” before we stomped bot lane pre-6. Good times.

Worth the Mythic Essence?

Verdict time. Prestige Battle Academia Lux is a clean skin that does exactly what a prestige should. Gold upgrade, refined VFX, exclusive feel. The problem is Lux has so many skins now that competition is fierce. Dark Cosmic Lux exists. Porcelain Lux exists. Space Groove exists. This prestige has to fight for a roster slot against some genuinely excellent alternatives.

If you’re a Lux one-trick who collects everything, obviously you want this. Top pick for Lux mains who care about the prestige aesthetic. But if you’re choosing between spending Mythic Essence here versus on another champion’s prestige, think about how much you actually play Lux in ranked. Spammed this in Diamond for about two weeks after getting it, then rotated back to Dark Cosmic because the Q on that skin just hits different.

For Lux mains specifically, I’d rank this mid-tier among her prestiges. The Battle Academia base is strong, the gold treatment is well executed, and the VFX changes are noticeable without being distracting in lane. Fair price for the package, assuming you had the Mythic Essence sitting around. Not the best Lux skin full stop, but a worthy addition if you main her. Real talk though, if you only play Lux occasionally in ARAM, skip it and save your essence for something you’ll actually use on the Rift.
