First time I saw Ocean Song Yone load into my game I genuinely thought it was a custom skin someone modded in. Yone at a beach festival with neon water effects on his sword swings? Felt like Riot was trolling. But after locking it in for maybe 40 ranked games last summer, the skin grew on me in ways I wasnt expecting. Not sure if it’s just me but the Q animation feels smoother with this one equipped.

VFX and what actually changes on the Rift

So the big draw here is the new VFX package. Every ability gets the ocean treatment. Q stacks build with these teal water ripples, and the third Q tornado is a full wave of cyan energy that reads clean in teamfights. W spirit form goes translucent blue instead of the base red, which honestly makes it harder for the enemy backline to track in a messy 5v5. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox visual is slightly wider than base, even though it isnt actually.

E is where it gets interesting. The spirit trail you leave behind has this bioluminescent glow to it. Like deep ocean jellyfish vibes. When you snap back, the water splash effect is satisfying. Played this in a Diamond 2 game last Tuesday around midnight and my support literally pinged my E trail asking what skin that was.

R knockup sends enemies into this column of water. Clean effect. Not the most dramatic ult VFX compared to something like Dawnbringer Yone, but it doesnt clutter the screen either. For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, the VFX package delivers. Voice lines stay base though. No new VO, which is standard for this price point. The recall animation is new and has Yone surfing on a wave with a guitar. Ridiculous concept. Kind of love it.

The Ocean Song line and release context

Ocean Song dropped June 9, 2022. Mid season 12. Jeremy ‘Jermu’ Anninos nailed the splash, Yone looking like he belongs at a Coachella afterparty on the coast. The Ocean Song skinline was Riot’s summer music festival theme that year, and Yone shipped alongside Seraphine, Nidalee, and Zeri in the same batch.

The line leans heavy into the summer pop aesthetic. Bright colors, water motifs, concert energy. Yone fits it better than you’d expect for a brooding swordsman character. (Random aside: the loading screen art for this skin has been my Discord banner since it came out and nobody has questioned it once.)

8 chromas total for Ocean Song Yone. Tanzanite is my personal pick, the deep purple against the water effects creates this contrast that base doesnt have. Obsidian goes full dark mode which some Yone mains in my games swear by. Pearl is clean too if you want that washed-out pastel look. Shop has it permanently so no rush on grabbing it.

Should you buy Ocean Song Yone?

Real talk though. Yone has a stacked skin lineup. Dawnbringer exists. Spirit Blossom exists. Heartsteel exists if you got prestige. Ocean Song sits in this weird spot where its not the flashiest option but its the most unique thematically. Every other Yone skin leans into the edgy dual-blade fantasy. This one just vibes.

Been running this as my secondary Yone skin since season 12 and I keep coming back to it when I want something lighter. The Q and E effects specifically feel good to spam in lane. If you one-trick Yone and already own Spirit Blossom, this is your next pickup. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip it if you only play Yone occasionally though, one skin is enough for a flex pick in your comp. Might be overthinking it but I genuinely believe the water VFX on third Q gives a slight mental edge in poke trades. Enemies respect the wave visual more than the base wind effect. Placebo? Probably. Still counting it.
