First time I saw this skin load in on the enemy team, I thought Riot finally gave Sett the treatment he deserved. Dark dragon aesthetic, heavy armor plating, the whole package. Locked it in that same night after the game and honestly havent looked back since. Obsidian Dragon Sett just fits the champion’s brawler fantasy better than his base ever did.

What the skin actually brings to your games

The VFX overhaul is where this Epic skin earns its 1350 RP. Sett’s Q punches trail dark purple and crimson energy that reads clean against basically any Rift terrain. His W is the standout though. Full Grit bar, you charge up, and the true damage zone gets this obsidian shatter effect that looks genuinely threatening in a teamfight. Been running this in Diamond for a couple seasons now, and I still catch myself watching the W animation instead of tracking the enemy backline. Bad habit.

E pull has subtle dragon claw marks on the ground. Not flashy but noticeable. The R suplex gets a dark energy slam that shakes the screen a bit harder than base. Kinda feels like the whole combo flows smoother with these particles, even though the animations are technically identical. Placebo or not, I play better with this skin on.

Recall animation is solid. Sett does this power stance with dragon energy swirling around him. Nothing as elaborate as a Legendary recall but it works for the price point. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Xander Mobus did great work on default Sett anyway so thats fine by me.

Not gonna lie, the model itself is the weakest part. The armor design is cool but from the in-game camera angle you lose a lot of the detail that shows up in the splash. The dragon motifs on his gauntlets and shoulder plates kind of blur together at normal zoom. Still looks better than Mecha Kingdoms Sett in my opinion, which goes way too busy with the mech details.

The Dragonmancers line and release context

Obsidian Dragon Sett dropped October 1, 2020. Season 10, right in the middle of that patch cycle where Sett was still getting regular play in top, jungle, and even support. The Dragonmancers skinline was one of Riot’s bigger thematic pushes that year.

Xiao Guang Sun and West Studio handled the splash. They cooked. The composition puts Sett front and center with obsidian scales and dragon fire framing him from behind. (Random aside: this splash was my Discord avatar for like six months straight.) The color palette leans heavy into dark purples and blacks with red accents, which separates it from the brighter Dragonmancer skins in the set.

10 chromas total, which is a lot for one skin. Emberclaw is the dark crimson variant and probably my favorite, the deep red over black reads like a final boss version. Pearl goes the opposite direction with a clean white and gold look that honestly feels like a different skin entirely. Amethyst leans into the purple harder than base. Could be wrong here but I think most Sett mains I run into on the Rift prefer either Emberclaw or Ruby over the default color scheme.

The Tenfold Triumph chroma came later as a special variant. Red and gold, very traditional dragon energy. Skip it unless you’re a completionist.

How it stacks up for Sett mains

Real verdict: Obsidian Dragon Sett is the best value Sett skin if you want new VFX without paying Legendary price. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The W alone justifies the purchase for me. Played maybe 200 games with this across season 11 and 12 specifically, and the particles never got old.

Shop has it permanently, so no rush. If you’re climbing with Sett in solo queue right now, this or Spirit Blossom are your two best options at the Epic tier. Spirit Blossom is prettier, Obsidian Dragon is meaner. Depends on your vibe.

Three things stood out after long-term use: the W VFX clarity in teamfights, the overall dark color scheme that doesn’t distract during lane phase, and how clean the chromas extend the skin’s life. Might be overthinking it but I genuinely believe the darker particle colors make it slightly easier to track your own abilities in chaotic 5v5s compared to brighter skins.

For Sett one-tricks specifically, this is a must-own. Even if you main Spirit Blossom or Heartsteel, you’ll rotate back to Obsidian Dragon eventually. S-tier Sett cosmetic. Been daily driving it again this season after a break and the skin just hits different at 2 AM when you’re on a six game win streak and the R slams feel personal.
