iG Rakan

First time I saw iG Rakan load in, season 9 ranked around midnight, I thought the model looked cleaner than it had any right to. Worlds skins can be hit or miss. Some feel like glorified recolors with a team logo slapped on. This one actually carries weight. Been running this as my main Rakan skin for a while now and the black and white color scheme just reads well on the Rift, especially in teamfights where everything turns into particle soup.

What the iG skin actually changes on Rakan

The base palette goes full monochrome with gold accents. Black coat, white feathers, iG’s logo worked into the design without looking forced. Clean silhouette. The W, Grand Entrance, has this sharp white burst on impact that feels satisfying to land. Could be wrong here but the hitbox visual actually seems to match better than base skin, which always felt slightly off to me.

Q sends out a feather with that same white-gold trail. Nothing crazy, but its consistent with the theme. E, Battle Dance, keeps the dash smooth with updated particles that trail behind Rakan as he zips to allies. Looked good in a game last Wednesday when I was peeling for our Kai’Sa against a fed Katarina. The recall is where they put real effort though. Rakan pulls out the Summoner’s Cup trophy, does a celebration animation. Standard for Worlds skins but it never gets old honestly.

Voice lines stay base. No new VO which is expected at this price point for an esports skin. The VFX changes carry the skin on their own. Ult particles got the treatment too, the charm effect radiates outward in white and gold waves. In lane specifically when you R flash into the backline, the visual reads so much better than default Rakan. Not gonna lie, I think the contrast between the dark model and bright ability effects is what makes iG Rakan pop harder than most Epic tier skins.

The Worlds 2018 line and release context

iG Rakan dropped April 23, 2019 as part of the World Champions: 2018 set celebrating Invictus Gaming’s Worlds run. Pan Chengwei nailed the splash, the composition with Rakan mid-dance surrounded by that dark energy hits the fantasy perfectly. The whole iG lineup was strong that year. Fiora, Camille, Kai’Sa, Irelia, LeBlanc. Rakan fit right in.

The World Champions 2018 skinline carries a specific vibe. Monochrome elegance. Every skin in the set shares that black-white-gold palette and theres a visual cohesion you dont always get with Worlds skins. Lock in iG Rakan alongside an iG Kai’Sa in bot lane and the matching aesthetic is chef’s kiss level.

One chroma exists for this skin, the Elite variant. Blue and gold swap on the primary colors. It changes the feel pretty dramatically, goes from that sleek black-white to something closer to a royal blue knight look. Worth picking up if you can find it, adds variety to the rotation. (Random aside: I keep the base version equipped 90% of the time because the original black just hits different in my Diamond games.)

Priced at 1350 RP which is standard Epic pricing. Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Sits in the vault and comes out during special events or Worlds season typically. If you see it available, that’s your window. Hextech crafting is another route if luck is on your side.

Is iG Rakan worth the 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a top three Rakan skin for me. Maybe top two. The competition is stiff with Elderwood and Star Guardian existing, but iG Rakan does something different. Less fantasy, more prestige. The monochrome works for engage supports because your team can actually track your abilities in a chaotic teamfight instead of losing you in a mess of green or purple particles.

I’ve played maybe 150 games on this skin across multiple seasons and the VFX still feel fresh. The recall animation with the trophy is a nice flex after winning a 2v2 in lane. Fair warning, if you missed the initial release window you’re at the mercy of the vault rotation or loot drops. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get, especially considering the recall and full VFX overhaul.

Skip this if you want something flashier or more thematic. Grab it if you appreciate clean design and want your Rakan to look like he belongs on a championship stage. Been spamming this in ranked since season 12 I think, and every time I consider switching to a newer Rakan skin I end up coming back. The iG set just has that peel-for-your-carry energy built into the aesthetic. Kinda feels like wearing a jersey of the winning team, except the jersey also makes your W look incredible.
