Been running Dragonslayer Braum since season 5 and honestly this skin still holds up. First time I saw the splash I thought it was a Legendary based on the art alone. Nope. 975 RP. The dragon-themed shield, the molten VFX on his abilities, the whole fantasy of Braum as some kind of dragonslaying warrior just clicks. Might be overthinking it but I think this is one of the best value skins Riot ever put out for a support champion.
What Dragonslayer Braum actually changes
The shield is the centerpiece. Instead of the default door-looking thing, Braum carries what looks like a dragon’s jawbone fused into a battle shield. Orange and black color scheme throughout. His W shield dash has this warm fiery particle trail, and his E barrier gets dragon-scale VFX that look way better than base. Not gonna lie, the Q poro toss replacement alone is worth it. Fires a molten projectile that reads cleaner in lane than the default snowball.
R is where it really shows. The fissure comes out with dragon fire effects along the ground. Played maybe 60 games on this skin last season in Diamond and the ult VFX consistently felt more satisfying than base Braum. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the recall animation is new. Braum punches the ground and summons dragon fire. Short and clean.
For a Standard tier skin at 975 RP these changes are generous. Most skins at this price point give you a model swap and maybe recolored particles. Dragonslayer Braum gets proper new VFX on Q, E, and R plus the recall. Sits in the shop permanently so no rush.
The Dragon World line and release context
Dragonslayer Braum dropped May 11, 2014. Early season 4. Charles ‘Yideth’ Liu nailed the splash, the composition with Braum standing against a dragon mid-roar is one of those pieces that just works at any resolution (random aside: had this as my desktop wallpaper for like two years straight).
The Dragon World skinline is one of Riot’s older thematic lines. Braum fits it naturally because his whole kit revolves around standing in front of danger and tanking hits. A dragonslayer who blocks with a dragon-bone shield. Makes sense.
10 chromas total for this skin which is wild for a 975 RP release. Obsidian turns the whole palette dark, almost black dragon aesthetic thats pretty clean for ranked. Amethyst swaps to purple tones and honestly reads like a completely different skin. There’s also esports chromas like LEC, LCS, LPL, and Fan Pass if you want to rep your region. Most of the chromas came later but they added real variety to an already solid base.
Should you pick up Dragonslayer Braum?
Real verdict: if you play Braum at all this is the skin to grab. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. Been maining Braum with this in Diamond for multiple seasons and I keep coming back to it over his more expensive options. Last Thursday I had a game where I blocked a full Kai’Sa ult with E and the dragon-scale barrier VFX just made the play feel ten times better.
Could be wrong here but I think Dragonslayer is the best Braum skin for the price. Sugar Rush and Pool Party are fun but they dont hit the same fantasy. If you want Braum to feel like a frontline wall of fire instead of a friendly poro guy, this is it. Top pick for Braum mains who want something that looks premium without paying Legendary prices. 975 RP well spent for mains, especially with the Obsidian chroma on top.
