First time I saw Dragonblade Riven was back in season 4, some guy in my ranked game just styling on the enemy top laner with the red blade VFX and I immediately wanted it. Gorgeous skin. The Lunar Revel theme fits Riven’s kit so naturally that it feels like it should have been her default aesthetic. Been maining Riven on and off since season 5 and this one stays in rotation no matter what new skins drop.

How Dragonblade Riven actually looks in game

The model swap puts Riven in this red and gold warrior outfit with traditional East Asian armor plating. Not sure if it’s just me but the sword redesign is the real star here. Broken blade fragments have this ornate dragon motif that catches light differently depending on the angle. Clean work.

VFX got a full treatment for an Epic tier skin. Q combo slashes leave these red energy trails that feel heavier than base Riven. The third Q knockup has a satisfying burst effect. W stun pulse trades the green for a deep crimson wave. Looks sharp in teamfights when you’re diving the backline and everything is popping off at once.

E shield has a warm golden tint to it. Subtle change but it reads well against the Rift. R activation gives Riven’s blade that reconstructed dragon form with red particles swirling around it, and Wind Slash fires off with matching red energy. Honestly the ult transformation is where this skin earns its keep. The recall animation is new too, Riven does this ceremonial sword flourish that fits the Warring Kingdoms vibe perfectly.

Voice lines stay base though. No VO refresh. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity given how much personality they packed into the visuals, but for 1350 RP thats expected. Cristina Valenzuela’s original performance still holds up anyway so its not a dealbreaker.

The Warring Kingdoms line and where Dragonblade fits

Dragonblade Riven dropped January 28, 2014. Right around Lunar New Year, which was the whole point of the Lunar Revel: Warring Kingdoms skinline. Bo Lu handled the artwork and the splash is one of those pieces that genuinely holds up a decade later. Riven mid-swing with cherry blossoms and dragon imagery in the background. Been my desktop wallpaper at least twice.

The Warring Kingdoms line gave us some bangers. Jarvan, Katarina, Nidalee all got skins in the same thematic space. Riven’s version might be the best executed of the set though. The champion fantasy of a warrior with a broken blade rebuilding it through combat maps perfectly onto the dynasty warrior aesthetic.

(Random aside: I’ve seen Dragonblade Riven maybe 4 times total in my Diamond games this season because its a Legacy vault skin and newer players dont even know it exists.)

Speaking of Legacy, yeah this one sits in the vault. You cant just grab it from the shop whenever. Hextech only these days unless Riot brings it back for a Lunar Revel event. Last time I think it was available was around 2022 or 2023, dont remember exactly. There’s 1 chroma available, the Golden variant. It swaps the red accent pieces for a brighter gold finish. Looks regal. I actually prefer it over the base version for splitpush games where I want to feel like royalty while taking towers.

Is Dragonblade Riven worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: if you play Riven at all, this skin deserves a spot in your collection. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, a solid recall animation, and one of the cleanest model swaps in Riven’s catalog. Could be wrong here but I think this aged better than Arcade Riven which came out a year later.

The competition is stiff though. Riven has a massive skin pool. Spirit Blossom Riven exists. Pulsefire exists. Battle Bunny Prime exists. But Dragonblade Riven has this understated elegance that the flashier options lack. No over-the-top particle effects drowning out your animation cancels. You can still read your Q combos and fast combos cleanly, which matters when you’re trying to proc your passive in a close lane trade pre-6.

Main problem is availability. You gotta wait for it to rotate out of the vault or get lucky with Hextech crafting. If you spot it during a Lunar Revel event, lock it in. Top pick for Riven mains who want something classic without the visual noise. Last Tuesday I played against a Riven one-trick running this skin and even on the enemy team it looked good. Worth it.
