Debonair Leona

First time I saw Debonair Leona load in during a ranked game, I thought someone modded their client. Leona in a suit? With the slicked back hair and the cocktail-hour energy? Not sure if it’s just me but it took a solid five seconds before I realized this was an official Riot skin. Been running this in Diamond support games since late 2021 and honestly the whole vibe just works way better than it has any right to on a tank engage champion.

What Debonair Leona actually brings to the table

So this is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, which means you get new VFX and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. The visual overhaul is where the money went.

Leona’s Q hits with this clean teal-green particle effect that feels crisp on contact. Hard to explain but the proc animation reads faster than base even though it isnt. Her W shield gets this geometric crystalline overlay instead of the usual solar flare look. Looks expensive. The E skillshot leaves a trail of emerald energy that contrasts nicely against the Rift’s color palette, especially in river fights around dragon pit.

The ult is the showpiece though. Solar Flare drops with this Art Deco style burst pattern, all sharp lines and jewel tones. Landed it on a Katarina last Tuesday in a teamfight near baron and my ADC actually typed “that ult VFX hits different” in chat. Not something you hear about Leona skins often.

Recall animation has Leona doing this suave card trick thing. Short and clean. Fits the Debonair fantasy without dragging on. (Random aside: my duo partner uses this recall to BM after winning lane and it never gets old.)

Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly different too. Might just be the weapon model being slimmer than default, making the swing look faster. Placebo or not, it feels good to peel with.

The Debonair line and where Leona fits

Debonair Leona dropped December 9, 2021. Late into season 11. Bo ‘chenbowow’ Chen nailed the splash, capturing this James Bond meets high fashion energy that the whole Debonair skinline goes for.

The Debonair set is one of Riot’s more stylish thematic lines. Leona joins alongside Debonair Brand, Debonair Zed, and a few others. She fits naturally into it. Tank supports dont usually get the “cool and sophisticated” treatment, so seeing Leona in something other than armor or eclipse robes is refreshing.

9 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my go-to, the dark color scheme makes the teal VFX pop harder against the model. Sapphire runs a clean blue-on-blue that reads well in lane. Cerulean Club is the exclusive one and honestly its cool but not drastically different from Sapphire at a glance. The rest cover your standard Ruby, Catseye, Rose Quartz spread. Tanzanite has a deep purple thing going that works for the mage-adjacent fantasy if you squint.

Who should actually lock in Debonair Leona

Verdict time. If you main Leona and you’re tired of cycling between Eclipse and PROJECT, this is a genuine alternative. Different enough in theme that it wont feel like just another armored Leona variant. The VFX are clean, the model is sharp, the chromas give you options.

Real talk though. Leona has a stacked skin catalog. Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse exist. PROJECT Leona exists. Battle Academia exists. So Debonair Leona isnt competing against weak options. Where it wins is personality. None of those other skins give Leona the confident, dressed-to-kill energy this one does.

Might be overthinking it but I think Debonair Leona is best for players who want their engage support to look like she walked out of a high-stakes poker game before diving the backline. Spammed this in Diamond for maybe 30 games one weekend back in season 12 and never felt like switching back. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Not the absolute best Leona skin, that’s still Eclipse for me, but solidly top three. Worth it for Leona mains, skip it if you only play her as a counterpick in bot lane once every 20 games.
