Dark Cosmic Jhin

You ever have a skin make you want to main a champion? Dark Cosmic Jhin did that to me. Picked it up on release day, June 13, 2019, played one game, and then queued ADC for the next three weeks straight. Jhin was already a stylish champion but this skin turns him into something that feels like it belongs in a completely different game.

Every ability feels like a galaxy collapsing

The model replaces Jhin’s theatrical gunman aesthetic with this cosmic entity look. Deep purple and gold, swirling galaxies visible in his cape, stars dotting the surface of his mask. He moves across the map like a celestial being on a mission. Bo “chenbowow” Chen did the splash and the composition is staggering. Jhin surrounded by cosmic destruction with his gun raised.

His Q, Dancing Grenade, bounces between targets as a small celestial orb that leaves star trails. Each bounce amplifies the visual slightly which matches the damage increase on kill. Feels intentional. The W, Deadly Flourish, fires a beam of cosmic energy across the screen. Long range snipes with this ability look like you are shooting a laser through space itself. Hit a max range W on a retreating Ezreal near their second tier tower two days ago and the kill confirm felt like an event.

Curtain Call on R is where this skin peaks. Four shots. Each one fires a beam of cosmic energy across the lane. The targeting reticle has these galaxy swirl effects and the fourth shot, the big one, explodes in a supernova of purple and gold particles. Honestly not gonna lie, I have missed R shots because I was watching the VFX instead of aiming. It is that distracting in the best possible way.

Captive Audience traps on E place little cosmic singularities on the ground. Subtle but the detonation effect when someone walks over them is a starburst that looks distinct from base. Placed a trap in bot lane river brush last night and caught their Rek’Sai walking through it on a gank. The starburst detonation with the cosmic particles looked like a tiny supernova going off in the bush. Saved my support’s life with that trap too so the VFX and the gameplay lined up perfectly.

Voice lines are reworked too – Jhin speaks with this cosmic grandeur, Quinton Flynn delivering lines about the beauty of destruction on a universal scale. The way he talks about each kill as art but on a galactic scale just elevates the whole Jhin fantasy. Every fourth auto attack lands with a deep cosmic pulse. Four. Always four. (Random aside: I tested once and the fourth auto with Dark Harvest proc on this skin might be the most visually satisfying single auto attack in the entire game.)

Release and the Dark Star connection

Dark Cosmic Jhin released June 13, 2019 as a Legendary at 1820 RP. Part of the Dark Star skinline which is one of Riot’s most visually consistent series. No chromas on this one, which I think is actually the right call. The cosmic purple and gold palette is so specific that alternate color schemes would dilute what makes it work. Still in the shop, been there since launch.

Is this Jhin’s best skin

This is gonna sound like an overstatement but Dark Cosmic Jhin might be one of the five best skins in League of Legends. The thematic cohesion between Jhin’s obsession with artistic perfection and the cosmic destruction aesthetic is perfect. Every ability feels designed around the concept. Every shot feels weighted.

At 1820 RP with no chromas you are paying for pure quality. Jhin has a lot of skin options now including the new Mythmaker Legendary, but Dark Cosmic remains the gold standard for most Jhin players I know. There’s a reason you see it in like every other game where someone picks Jhin. Skip the rest. This is the one. Been seeing it consistently in my Diamond games for years now and I dont think the popularity has dropped at all since 2019. Shop has it permanently and honestly 1820 RP well spent for any ADC player.
