Crime City Nightmare Darius

First game I loaded this up was around 3 AM on a Tuesday, ranked flex with my duo. Locked in Darius, hovered the skin, and the loading screen splash alone had my buddy asking what I was running. Crime City Nightmare Darius just has that energy. Dark, eldritch, mob boss crossed with Lovecraftian horror. Not what I expected from a Darius skin but it works way better than it should.

What the skin actually brings to the table

So this is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, and it checks most of the boxes you’d want. New model, new VFX across the board, and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no new VO here. But honestly thats fine because the visual package carries hard enough on its own.

The model turns Darius into this nightmare creature in a pinstripe suit. Tentacles, dark energy, the whole vibe screams “eldritch gangster.” His axe got reworked into something organic and jagged. Looks like it grew out of the void rather than being forged. In lane specifically, the silhouette reads completely different from base Darius. Bulkier, more menacing.

VFX is where Crime City Nightmare Darius really separates itself. Q spin has this deep purple and black energy trail that feels heavier than base. W proc leaves a dark mark on whoever you hit. E pull has tentacle-like wisps reaching out. Kinda feels like Darius is dragging souls rather than just hooking with his axe. The ult dunk, and I mean this seriously, is one of the cleanest execute animations on any Epic Darius skin. Purple-black explosion, screen presence, the whole thing. Been running this in Diamond for a while now and the ult VFX alone tilts people.

Recall animation fits the Crime City Nightmare theme. Darius does this power display with dark energy, very mob boss energy. Short, clean, no filler. Could be wrong here but I think it’s one of the better recall animations in the skinline compared to Akali’s version.

The Crime City Nightmare line and release context

Crime City Nightmare dropped August 26, 2021. Season 11 if memory serves. Forrest Imel and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures the noir horror fusion perfectly. Darius sitting in shadow, tentacles creeping, that red eye cutting through the dark.

The Crime City Nightmare skinline is one of Riot’s better thematic experiments. Takes the old Crime City concept and pushes it into cosmic horror territory. Darius fits naturally here because his kit already has that brutal executioner fantasy. Adding eldritch power on top just amplifies what Darius already does in teamfights. Peel? Disengage? Nah, this skin makes you want to ghost into five people and start stacking passive.

9 chromas total for this skin. Obsidian is probably the cleanest, goes full dark and the tentacle effects blend into the model in a way that looks intentional rather than recolored. Tanzanite hits the deep purple angle harder than base which I think works better for the horror vibe. Underground chroma has this dark crimson thing going on that my Katarina one-trick friend actually complimented, which never happens. (Random aside: the Underground chroma is genuinely underrated, I see maybe 2 people running it all season.) Not gonna list every single one but Ruby, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Sapphire, Catseye, and Pearl round out the set.

Worth the 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin for Darius mains. Not gonna lie, I rotate between this and Dunkmaster depending on my mood, and Crime City Nightmare wins most nights. The VFX package outperforms what you’d expect at this price point. Played maybe 200 games with it since release and the novelty hasnt worn off.

If you’re climbing with Darius in top lane, this skin gives you a visual edge in lane prio fights. Sounds dumb but the Q animation reads slightly different to opponents. Been in enough Diamond games to notice people misjudge the outer edge timing. Might be overthinking it but the hitbox visual just hits different on this skin.

Shop has it, 1350 RP, permanent availability. For Darius mains this is top two or three in his entire catalog. Compared to High Noon Darius which costs more, Crime City Nightmare holds its own on VFX alone. Skip Dreadnova, skip Academy, this is the mid-price Darius skin if you can only own one. 1350 RP well spent for mains, especially if you grab the Obsidian or Underground chroma to go with it.
