First game I played with Cafe Cuties Poppy, my duo said it looked like Poppy got isekai’d into a bakery anime. Honestly not gonna lie, thats kind of the whole appeal. She’s holding a massive pastry hammer, wearing a maid-cafe apron, and somehow it works. Poppy already has this stubborn yordle energy and putting her in a dessert-themed outfit leans into the charm without making it too saccharine. Locked this in around midnight the day it dropped and played like six ranked games back to back.
What Cafe Cuties Poppy actually brings
For 1350 RP you’re getting new VFX across all abilities and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no VO refresh. The Q slam sends out pastry-colored sparkles across the ground, pinks and creams that pop against the Rift’s darker sections. Her W creates this swirling barrier with little confetti-like particles. Clean read in teamfights, which matters when you’re trying to peel for your ADC.
The E charge and wall stun keeps the impact feel but wraps it in cafe aesthetics. Frosting particles on impact. Might be overthinking it but the wallsplat animation feels slightly more satisfying than base, could just be placebo from the new effects. Her R, the keeper’s verdict, launches enemies with a massive dessert-themed shockwave. The fully charged ult sends them flying with trailing pastry VFX. Been running this in Diamond and the ult visuals actually help me track the knockback distance better than some of her other skins.
Recall animation is cute. She sets up a little tea service, pours herself a cup, takes a sip. Simple but fits the theme perfectly. No new voice lines which is standard for this Epic tier. The model itself has Poppy in a pink and cream outfit with a beret, her hammer redesigned as an oversized whisk or rolling pin type weapon. The splash by Lejia Chan and Kudos Productions nailed the cozy cafe vibe.
The Cafe Cuties line and where Poppy fits
Cafe Cuties launched its second wave October 25, 2023. Late into season 13. The skinline already had Bard, Gwen, and a few others from the first round. Poppy joining the Cafe Cuties roster makes sense given her yordle proportions and the cute factor Riot was going for.
The Cafe Cuties theme is one of Riot’s lighter skinlines. No world-ending lore, no cosmic horror. Just champions working at a magical cafe. Poppy fits naturally because she’s already got that determined-but-adorable personality. She looks like the barista who would bonk you with a rolling pin if you complained about your latte. (random aside: my friend group now calls her “Starbucks Poppy” and I cant get it out of my head)
8 chromas total for this one. Tanzanite goes deep purple and honestly reads like a completely different skin at a glance. Obsidian shifts everything dark, gives it an after-hours coffee shop feel that I prefer over the base pastel palette. Rose Quartz leans harder into the pink, almost too sweet for my taste but I’ve seen maybe 4 people running it in ranked this season so it stands out. Shop has it, permanent availability, nothing limited about this one.
Should you buy Cafe Cuties Poppy?
Real verdict: if you main Poppy and want something lighter than her usual armored knight aesthetic, this is a strong pick. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX are clean, the model is charming, the recall is fun without being obnoxious. Not the best Poppy skin full stop – I think Star Guardian and Astronaut still compete hard in that space – but Cafe Cuties Poppy fills a niche none of her other skins touch.
Skip it if you only play Poppy as a counterpick in top lane once every 30 games. Worth 1350 RP if you main Poppy or play her regularly in support. Been daily driving this since about two patches after release and keep coming back to it over Hextech and Bewitching. The pastry hammer just hits different when you’re slamming someone into a wall at dragon pit. Last Tuesday I E’d a Katarina into baron wall and my whole team spammed the laughing emote. Good times.
