Sona Skins

16 skins available

Sona is one of those champions where the skin catalog tells you everything about how Riot views her. Sixteen skins deep and spanning from 2010 all the way to 2024, she's been getting consistent love from the art team for over a decade. Been a Sona player on and off since season 3 myself, mostly as a pocket pick when I get autofilled support in Diamond. Not gonna lie, some of these skins are genuinely top-tier cosmetics in the entire game. Others are just okay. Thats the honest breakdown I'm giving you here.

Every Sona Skin at a Glance

Sixteen skins. That number puts Sona in solid territory for catalog size, not the biggest roster but far from neglected. The spread across tiers is actually pretty interesting when you break it down: six Standard skins from the early days, six Epics that cover most of the modern era, one Legendary in PsyOps, one Ultimate in DJ Sona, and two Mythic-tier Prestige editions. Real range there.

The earliest skin, Muse Sona, dropped back in 2010 alongside her release. Classic Riot move from that era, just a texture swap and call it a day. Her newest addition is Victorious Sona from 2024, which you cant buy anyway since it's a ranked reward. Between those two bookends you've got fourteen years of evolving skin quality, and honestly the jump from her 2010-2013 skins to anything post-2018 is massive.

Could be wrong here but I think Sona might have one of the better Ultimate-to-Standard ratios in the game. Most champions are lucky to get one Legendary. She's got a Legendary AND an Ultimate AND two Prestiges. Riot clearly sees her as a money maker, which tracks because support mains are loyal spenders (sidebar: my duo partner has bought every Sona skin day one for six years straight, its kind of a problem).

The catalog evolved in waves. Early stuff like Muse, Pentakill, and Silent Night were simple recolors. Then Arcade Sona in 2012 pushed her into the 1350 RP territory with actual model changes. DJ Sona in 2015 was the big moment. Everything after that had to compete with an Ultimate skin, and most of the Epics hold up surprisingly well. Star Guardian Sona and Immortal Journey Sona both came out strong. PsyOps gave her a proper Legendary with new VO and animations. Good stuff overall.

Best Sona Skins Worth Playing

DJ Sona. Full stop. If you're talking about the single best skin in her catalog, it's DJ Sona and it's not particularly close. Three forms you can toggle between mid-game: Kinetic, Concussive, and Ethereal. Each one changes her music, her particles, her model, everything. The Q sends out different shaped projectiles depending on which form you're running. W heal has completely different VFX across all three. Even her E speed boost looks and sounds unique per form. Been spamming this in ranked since season 5 and the skin still holds up against modern Ultimates. 3250 RP is steep but you're getting three skins in one.

PsyOps Sona is the Legendary pick at 1820 RP and honestly it might be more fun to play than DJ in certain ways. New voice lines that actually fit the darker military aesthetic. Her Q fires these psychic blade projectiles. The W shield animation has this clean holographic look. Ult is the star though, the R crescendo hits with this massive psychic shockwave effect that feels heavier than base. Played maybe 200 games with PsyOps last season and the animations are just crisp. The auto-attack sound alone is worth it for laning phase.

Arcade Sona still bangs for an Epic. Released back in 2012 but the pixel art theme ages well because it's stylized. Her abilities turn into retro game effects. The recall has her playing a rhythm game. At 1350 RP this is probably the best value Sona skin if you dont want to commit Legendary money. I keep coming back to it when I want something lighter than PsyOps.

Might be overthinking it but Star Guardian Sona deserves a mention too. The pastel color palette works perfectly with her kit because everything she does is already sparkly and musical. Her familiar floats around during abilities and the teamfight readability is actually good, which cant be said for every Star Guardian skin. Not sure if it's just me but the E movement speed trail on Star Guardian might be the prettiest version across all her skins.

Immortal Journey Sona rounds out the top five. Chinese fantasy aesthetic that fits her instrument theme naturally. The Prestige version of this one exists too and its cleaner than the base if you managed to grab it. Kinda feels like Riot designed the whole skin around the Prestige variant and worked backwards.

Skinlines and How They Fit Sona

Sona shows up across a wild variety of skinlines. Pentakill is the obvious one and she's been in it twice: the original Pentakill Sona and then Pentakill III: Lost Chapter. The metal band fantasy for a harp player sounds contradictory but it works. Heavy guitar riffs replacing her usual gentle melodies. Real talk though, the Lost Chapter version is the better of the two by a significant margin.

Arcade: Heroes is probably the most natural fit after her base theme. Music plus retro gaming just clicks. The pixel effects on her abilities feel intentional rather than forced (random aside: Arcade Sona was my first skin purchase ever back in season 3, so I'm biased here). Odyssey puts her in a space setting which is fine but not my favorite thematic direction for her. The crew dynamic in that skinline is cool but Sona specifically feels like she's just along for the ride.

Heartbreakers gave us Sweetheart Sona. Valentine's theme. It's cute, nothing groundbreaking. Snowdown Showdown has Silent Night Sona from 2010 which is Legacy vault now. Lunar Revel brought Guqin Sona which replaces her instrument with a guqin, genuinely cool concept that fits her musician identity better than most skinline themes. The Fables line and Spirit Blossom Springs are newer additions that lean into the mystical side.

Honestly the champion just works in most skinlines because her core identity is "woman playing instrument with magical powers." That translates to basically any setting. Season 8 or 9, I remember thinking she had too many skins already. Now at sixteen I still think most of them earned their spot.

Budget Picks vs Going Premium on Sona

The price spread here goes from 520 RP all the way up to 3250 RP for DJ Sona. Big range. If you're climbing ranked and just want something that looks decent without dropping serious RP, Guqin Sona at 520 RP punches way above its weight class. The instrument change alone makes it feel more premium than a Standard skin has any right to. Pentakill Sona is another budget option that delivers personality.

In the Epic tier at 1350 RP, Arcade Sona is still the pick. Could be coping but I think it competes with skins twice its price on pure vibes. Star Guardian and Immortal Journey are both solid 1350 options too if Arcade's aesthetic isnt your thing.

Premium side: PsyOps at 1820 RP is the Legendary and it earns the price tag with new VO, new animations, the full package. DJ Sona at 3250 is a lifestyle purchase. You either want three skins in one or you don't. There's no in-between with Ultimate tier pricing. For most Sona mains I'd say PsyOps is the sweet spot. Legendary quality without the Ultimate sticker shock. Fair price for the package.

The two Prestige skins are their own thing. Cant buy them with RP directly, they're event or Mythic Essence grabs. If you have the currency, Prestige Immortal Journey is the cleaner of the two. Prestige Requiem Sona from the Pentakill revival is solid but niche. Victorious Sona from 2024 is free if you hit Gold+ in ranked. Decent flex in the loading screen but the skin itself is nothing crazy compared to her paid options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Sona have?

Sixteen total as of 2024. That includes six Standard tier, six Epics, one Legendary (PsyOps), one Ultimate (DJ Sona), and two Mythic Prestige editions. Plus Victorious Sona as a ranked reward. Solid catalog for a support champion, been growing steadily since her 2010 release.

What is the best Sona skin?

DJ Sona if money isnt an issue. Three toggleable forms, completely unique music and VFX per form. Best Ultimate skin in the game I think. If you want something cheaper, PsyOps Sona at Legendary tier is excellent with new voice lines and crisp animations. Arcade Sona for budget players.

What is the cheapest Sona skin?

Several Standard skins sit at 520 RP. Guqin Sona is the best value at that price point, the instrument swap to a guqin gives it real personality. Muse Sona and Silent Night Sona are also cheap but Silent Night is Legacy vault so you cant always grab it.

Does Sona have a Legendary skin?

Yes. PsyOps Sona is her Legendary at 1820 RP. Full new VO, unique animations, completely reworked ability VFX. She also has DJ Sona which is Ultimate tier at 3250 RP, one step above Legendary. Between those two, Sona mains eat well on premium skins.

What skinlines is Sona in?

A bunch. Pentakill (twice), Arcade: Heroes, DJ, Odyssey, Heartbreakers, Snowdown Showdown, Lunar Revel, Star Guardian, Immortal Journey, Spirit Blossom Springs, and Fables. She shows up in more skinlines than most supports. The music theme translates well to basically any setting Riot throws at her.

Does Sona have chromas?

Several of her Epic skins have chroma sets. Arcade Sona, PsyOps Sona, Star Guardian Sona, and Immortal Journey Sona all got chromas. The PsyOps chromas are probably the best of the bunch, Obsidian variant goes hard. Check individual skin pages for specific chroma counts and colors.

When was Sona's last skin released?

Victorious Sona dropped in 2024 as the ranked season reward. Before that, Spirit Blossom Springs Sona and Prestige Requiem Sona came through. She's been getting pretty consistent releases, roughly one or two per year recently. Not neglected by any means.

Is Sona worth buying skins for?

If you play support regularly, absolutely. Sona's kit is all about auras and music so skins that change her sound design feel like a completely different experience. DJ Sona literally changes the background music for your whole team. Even cheap skins like Guqin feel fresh. Top pick for mains, worth at least one skin even as a pocket pick.
