Is League of Legends Available on Consoles? Here’s the Straight Truth
Despite ongoing rumors and hopeful fan chatter, League of Legends – the iconic 5v5 MOBA from Riot Games – remains firmly rooted on PC and macOS. There’s no official version of the main game designed for consoles.
PC-Only Main Client
Since its debut back in 2009, League of Legends has been crafted exclusively for Windows and macOS platforms. Riot has no current plans to bring the core client to PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo systems. This exclusivity stems from the game’s intricate user interface, constant balance tweaks, and backend matchmaking systems optimized specifically for PC controls.
Wild Rift’s Console Plans That Didn’t Make It
When Riot unveiled League of Legends: Wild Rift in 2019 – a streamlined mobile adaptation – early teasers suggested a possible console launch down the line. However, those ambitions quietly faded away. By late 2024, Riot officially confirmed the cancellation of Wild Rift’s console rollout, explaining their decision to focus efforts primarily on mobile development.
Console-Friendly League Spin-Offs
Though the flagship MOBA isn’t on consoles, Riot Forge, Riot’s publishing division, has delivered several League-inspired games playable on PlayStation and Xbox:
Ruined King: A League of Legends Story (2021) – a narrative-driven RPG available on PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch
Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story (2023) – a third-person adventure released on PC and Switch
These titles use familiar characters and lore but offer gameplay that’s worlds apart from traditional League matches.
Looking Ahead
As of early 2025, Riot hasn’t announced any plans or timelines to bring either League of Legends or Wild Rift to console platforms. For now, PC remains the sole home for the original League experience, while console gamers can explore Runeterra through Riot Forge’s unique standalone adventures.
