First time I locked in Coven Nilah was around 3 AM on a Tuesday, right after patch day. Couldn’t sleep, figured I’d test it in a normal game before bringing it into ranked. The splash loaded and I just sat there for a second. Ina Wong and West Studio went hard on the splash, the composition pulls you in before you even hit the Rift. Nilah already has this fluid fighting style that feels satisfying to pilot, and wrapping that in the Coven aesthetic turns her into something way more menacing than her base version suggests.
What Coven Nilah actually brings to the table
New VFX across the board. Her Q hits with this deep violet energy that reads cleaner than base in teamfights, which matters when you’re trying to track your passive range in a clustered dragon pit. The W shield bubble shifts to this dark ritualistic glow. Feels like you’re channeling something ancient instead of just blocking damage. Not gonna lie, the W particles alone sold me on keeping this in rotation.
Her E dash leaves behind a trail of Coven sigils that fade quick but look sharp during engage sequences. Ult is where it gets interesting though. The R pulls enemies in with these dark tendrils and the whole circle effect takes on that witchy purple-black palette the Coven line is known for. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in Diamond last season and the ult VFX never got old. One game specifically I pulled a four-man ult in bot lane and my support started spam pinging the visual. Good stuff.
New recall animation too. Nilah does this ritualistic weapon display that fits the dark priestess vibe. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly the existing voice work from Sandra Saad holds up fine with the skin’s aesthetic. Base voice, no changes.
The Coven line and where Nilah fits
Released October 11, 2023. Late into season 13. The Coven skinline is one of Riot’s most consistent themes and I think Nilah slots in naturally. The whole dark feminine power fantasy works for a champion who fights with water and joy. Kinda feels like the contrast between her bubbly personality and the Coven corruption creates something more interesting than just “dark version of champion.”
Coven Nilah sits alongside heavy hitters like Coven Zyra and Coven Camille in the line. Nilah’s version leans heavier into the ritualistic side. (Random aside: the Coven splash lineup might be the best collective art direction Riot has done for any skinline period.) Credit to Ina Wong and West Studio for making Nilah look like she belongs in this roster without losing what makes her silhouette recognizable.
9 chromas total if you want variety. Obsidian is my personal pick, the near-black palette turns the whole skin into this shadow priestess look thats hard to beat. Tanzanite pushes the purple deeper for anyone who wants to commit fully to the witch aesthetic. Profane has this teal and magenta split that reads unique in game. The rest are solid but those three stood out across my games.
Is Coven Nilah worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: this Epic tier skin earns its 1350 RP for Nilah mains. The VFX overhaul is substantial for the price point. You get a cohesive theme, clean ability particles that dont clutter your screen during fights, and a recall that actually fits the fantasy. Still in the shop, grab it whenever.
Could be wrong here but I think this is the strongest Nilah skin right now if you care about visual clarity in ranked. Star Guardian Nilah goes harder on the spectacle but Coven reads better in chaotic teamfights. Been running this as my go-to Nilah skin since it dropped and I keep coming back even after testing the alternatives. The Coven line just fits her kit in a way that makes the abilities feel more impactful.
For ADC players who pick Nilah into specific comps or Nilah one-tricks climbing through Diamond, 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip it if you barely play her. But if Nilah is in your bot lane rotation at all, this is the skin. Simple change from base – huge impact on how the champion feels to play. Season 13 pickup that I’m still using well into season 14. Worth it.
