First time I saw Star Guardian Lulu in a loading screen I think it was late 2016, maybe November. Pix turns into this little star familiar and the whole kit just lights up in pink and teal. Immediately wanted it. Played three ARAM games that night specifically to test the VFX and yeah, it delivers. Not every Epic skin nails the theme this cleanly but this one does.
How the skin actually plays
The VFX overhaul is the main draw here. Lulu’s Q sends out these sparkly star bolts instead of the default purple projectiles, and they read way better against the Rift background. Easier to track in teamfights too, which matters when you’re trying to land poke in a chaotic bot lane. W polymorph gets a star burst effect that honestly looks more satisfying than base. Feels like youre actually cursing someone with cosmic energy instead of just turning them into a squirrel.
E shield wraps the target in this starlight barrier. Clean animation. Not flashy enough to distract from gameplay but noticeable enough that your ADC knows they got shielded. Been running this in Diamond support games for a while and the visual clarity on E is genuinely helpful for coordination.
Her ult is where it pops off though. Wild Growth sends up this burst of star energy around whoever you cast it on. Big pink explosion. In a teamfight around dragon pit last week my Jinx got the knock-up on three people and the Star Guardian VFX made it look twice as dramatic. The recall animation is new too – Lulu does this magical girl transformation pose with Pix. Cute stuff. Fits the theme perfectly.
Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity for a skin this thematic but at 1350 RP thats pretty standard for Epics from this era. Could be wrong here but I think Riot started adding voice filters to Epics more consistently only after 2018 or so.
The Star Guardian line and where Lulu fits
Star Guardian Season 1 dropped October 5, 2016. This was the batch that really launched the skinline into the stratosphere. Lulu shipped alongside Star Guardian Jinx, Janna, Poppy, and Lux. Esben Lash Rasmussen did the splash and honestly the composition is gorgeous – Lulu floating with Pix in full magical girl regalia, stars everywhere.
The Star Guardian Season 1 set holds up surprisingly well for skins that are approaching 10 years old. Lulu specifically benefits from having a champion model that’s already whimsical. The magical girl aesthetic maps onto her kit naturally. Some champions feel forced into the Star Guardian mold but Lulu was born for it (random aside: my duo partner has this skin permanently locked in and refuses to use anything else on Lulu, been like that since season 7).
No chromas available for this one. Zero. Which is a shame because I’d love to see a darker palette variant. Maybe a corrupted Star Guardian purple or something. But it is what it is.
Should you buy Star Guardian Lulu?
Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, cohesive theme. The Star Guardian fantasy on Lulu just works. Not gonna lie, if you play Lulu support with any regularity this is probably the skin. Cosmic Enchantress and Space Groove are strong competitors but Star Guardian has that classic energy.
Shop has it, permanent availability so no rush. Been playing maybe 40 ranked games with this skin this season alone and I keep coming back to it over newer options. The VFX clarity in lane specifically gives it an edge when I’m trying to peel for my backline or land Q poke through minion waves.
For Lulu mains and one-tricks this is S-tier. For people who play her occasionally in autofill support games, still worth picking up on sale. Not sure if it’s just me but the skin makes me play better. Placebo probably. Pre-6 laning feels smoother when your abilities look this clean. Skip it only if you already own Dragon Trainer, which is the Legendary alternative at a higher price point. But for the Epic tier? Star Guardian Lulu is the Lulu skin if you can only own one at this price range. Banger from 2016 that still holds up in season 14 and beyond.
