Your online identity is worth protecting, and Riot Games wants to help you do just that. Enter Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – a quick and effective layer of defense for your account. It’s simple to set up, adds a powerful security boost, and yes, you’ll even score some in-game goodies as a thank-you for locking down your account.

Let’s walk you through everything you need to know to get started.

What Is MFA and How Does It Work?

Each time you log in, you’ll receive a unique six-digit code – either via your Riot Mobile app or to the email connected to your Riot account. Enter that code, hit confirm, and you’re in. Done. Easy.

Don’t want to do this every single time? No problem. Just check the box during sign-in that says “Remember this app for 30 days.” That way, you’ll only be asked once a month – on that device.

How To Turn On MFA

Here’s how to enable Multi-Factor Authentication in just a few clicks:

  1. Sign in to your Riot account.

  2. Find the Multi-Factor Authentication section on your account page.

  3. Click the Enable (or Resend) button – you’ll instantly get an email to kick things off.

  4. Head to your inbox (we’ll show you which email we sent it to).

  5. Open the email from Riot Games and click the Enable Multi-Factor Authentication button.

  6. You’ll be redirected back to your account, and boom – MFA is now active.

⚠️ Don’t see the email? Peek into your spam folder – just in case.

Want a Smoother Login? Use Riot Mobile

For the fastest, easiest login experience, download Riot Mobile on your phone or tablet. Not only can it serve as your MFA code generator, but it also lets you scan QR codes for an even speedier login.

Do I Really Have to Enter a Code Every Time?

Nope. During login, check the box that says “Remember this app for 30 days.” That way, you’ll skip the code for a month – just make sure it’s a trusted device like your personal laptop or phone.

(Heads up: this checkbox is different from the “keep me signed in” option.)

How To Turn Off MFA

Need to disable MFA? It’s just as simple as turning it on – but remember, you’re removing an important security layer. Only do this if you’re 100% sure.

  1. Sign in to your Riot account.

  2. Go to the Multi-Factor Authentication card.

  3. Click Disable.

  4. A pop-up will ask if you’re sure – confirm to complete.

  5. MFA is now turned off. You can always re-enable it anytime.

What If I’m Logged In on Devices I Don’t Use Anymore?

You can log out of all devices remotely – no sweat:

  1. Sign in to your Riot account.

  2. Find the Login Management section.

  3. Click LOG OUT EVERYWHERE.

This logs you out of every device and clears their “trusted” status too.

Help! My MFA Emails Are Going to an Old Email Address

If you can’t access the email your account is tied to, the best step is to contact Riot’s Player Support. Submit a ticket and we’ll help you reclaim access.

I Didn’t Turn On MFA – Why Am I Getting These Emails?

Even if you didn’t manually activate MFA, you might still get verification codes. That’s because Riot automatically enforces MFA when you make big changes – like switching emails, resetting your password, or changing linked accounts. It’s for your safety.

Locking down your account takes minutes. Losing it could take your entire history. So, do yourself a favor – turn on MFA and game on with peace of mind.
