First game I loaded this skin into, my duo immediately asked if I was playing a different champion. Not gonna lie, Strike Commander Camille hits so differently from her base model that it took me a second to adjust to the silhouette. The Steel Valkyries line turned Camille into something out of a mech anime and I was not expecting to like it as much as I do. Been running this as my main Camille skin since it dropped in August 2022.
What the skin actually changes
So the VFX overhaul is the real selling point here. Her Q procs have this sharp energy flare that reads way cleaner than base in teamfights. Precision Protocol looks like it could cut through the Rift itself. The second Q hit especially, that true damage proc, has a distinct glow that feels satisfying every single time.
W is where I think the visual upgrade matters most for gameplay. Tactical Sweep sends out this wide scanner effect. Clean lines. You can actually read the hitbox better than default Camille which sounds like copium but its genuinely easier to track in lane. Hookshot on E has new trail particles too, the grapple reads more like a tactical deployment than just swinging off a wall.
The R though. Hextech Ultimatum drops this containment field that looks military-grade. Trapped their Jinx in dragon pit last Tuesday around 2 AM and the cage VFX looked absurd against the terrain. Real talk though, the recall animation is what sells the commander fantasy. She does this whole tactical briefing pose. Short but memorable.
Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for a 1350 RP Epic tier skin. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity because the commander aesthetic begs for some radio chatter lines, but Riot rarely does voice work at this price point so cant complain.
Steel Valkyries and the creative team behind it
Steel Valkyries is one of Riot’s sci-fi military skinlines. Camille fits the theme naturally because her base kit already reads as precision operative. Jeremy Chong and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured this authoritative energy in the splash that translates well in-game.
Released August 25, 2022. Mid season 12 if I remember right. The Steel Valkyries batch came with a few other skins but Strike Commander Camille stood out as the premium pick of the set. (Random aside: the splash has been my desktop background at work for months and nobody has questioned it because it just looks like generic sci-fi art.)
9 chromas available total. Obsidian is my go-to for ranked because the dark color scheme blends with the Rift better and feels less distracting. Tanzanite hits this deep purple that reads really well against green terrain. The Ace chroma has a unique pink and dark grey combo that I’ve seen maybe 3 times in my Diamond games all season. Most people sleep on Rose Quartz but the pastel palette actually works better than you’d expect on the military frame.
The splitpush monster question
Camille mains already know the deal. You’re locking this in for sidelane pressure, diving backline in teamfights, and making the enemy ADC alt-tab to check if Camille is banned next game. Strike Commander Camille doesnt change any of that but it makes the whole experience feel more polished.
Could be wrong here but I think this is the second best Camille skin after Coven. Coven has the edge on thematic cohesion and the darker vibe, but Strike Commander wins on VFX clarity. If you’re a Camille one-trick who cares about reading your abilities in chaotic late-game fights, this is the pick. Played maybe 200 games with it across two seasons and the particle clarity alone helped me track Q timing better.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, clean model. Shop has it, permanent availability. Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attack animations feel slightly snappier with this skin. Might be placebo, might be the animation timing on the blade extensions reading faster. Either way I keep coming back to this over IG Camille which was my previous default.
Should you buy it? If you play Camille regularly in ranked, absolutely. The VFX improvements are functional, not just cosmetic. If you’re picking Camille once every 30 games for a counterpick in top lane, probably skip and save for something you’ll actually use. But for mains who want their engage and peel to look sharp while climbing through Diamond? Worth every RP. Season 12 purchase I do not regret.
